Guest guest
I've been lurking, reading all your messages for the last week or so, and I'm really saddened by how much negativity we all aim at ourselves. Come on, guys -- in the long run, how much does a few days of eating " poorly " matter? This is a subject I struggle with all the time and I'm trying hard to let go of my obssessive behavior towards food. My mom (God love her, she meant well) really did a number on me, and still tries every fad diet on the planet, even though she's in spectacular shape and has the cardiovascular strength of a teenager. So something that occurred to me was a discussion I had with my kids' pediatrician when my eldest turned three last year. My mother was incredibly distressed about his diet, and was making me paranoid because, like most kids, he HATES anything remotely related to a vegetable. What the doctor told me is that you have to consider kids' nutrition over the period of like a month. Some kids will go a week eating only pizza, or PB&J, or oranges. But over the course of a month, they end up eating a decent amount of fruit and even veggies (tomato sauce counts, especially when you puree other veggies into it!). It makes me feel much better with relation to how my kids eat, and recently Jake has started drinking little cans of V-8 juice! (He obviously doesn't know it's veggie juice, and we're not telling.) I've decided to kind of apply this method to me, too. How crazy do we make ourselves, trying to eat someone's idea of the right amounts of each type of food each day? But if one week I eat lots of salads and should be eating more lean protein, or if for two days I nibble too much on junk food (guilty!), I hopefully make it up over the course of my month. What do you guys think? Happy New Year to all.... JT
Guest guest
I think in the long run a few days of eating poorly means nothing unless you have these few days often. lol. Everything on moderation. > I've been lurking, reading all your messages for the last week or so, > and I'm really saddened by how much negativity we all aim at > ourselves.
