Guest guest
Well I am new member to the group. I have a 7 y/o DD whom is HH. She was diagnosed at 5 1/2 with mild to moderate hearing loss in her left ear. January 05 she was diagnosed. The school in California did nothing until October 05 to get her services, and unfortunately we moved to Florida in January 06. The ESE director at her elementary school did absolutely nothing from January 06-May 06. I finally sent a certified letter to the director of the county ESE service, and finally got a response. We are supposedly starting the evaluation process, but now I haven't heard anything in weeks! I am very frustrated because my daughter is now struggling in school. She barely passed the first grade. In addition, they haven't told me any of the tests that they are going to perform to diagnose my daughter's needs. What is the best way to follow up and make sure that they are doing there jobs? So far it seems that they don't want to do a new hearing test, they want to use her old one. It also seems that they don't want to test her beyond her hearing loss. She needs a full evaluation which I requested, but I feel like they are trying to get away with as little as possible. Help!!
Guest guest
Hey , Where are you in Florida? I live in Sanford which is just north of Orlando. My son just turned 7 in August. He has a mild sloping to profound, sensory neural loss in both ears. In Seminole County, you can go for audiology services (testing in the booth) apart from the rest of ESE, as long as you're a county resident, up until the age of 21. What sort of testing and evaluations are you looking for? God bless. Emery alldrssdup99 wrote: > > Well I am new member to the group. I have a 7 y/o DD whom is HH. Guest guest
There are others much more with it than me, but do you even have an Individual Education Plan (IEP)? I would not bother with the school any longer; you need to contact your district's Special Ed and ask for an IEP asap. That will put goals in place. With an IEP, the school cannot get away with doing nothing. Ideally, you should have brought the IEP from CA to FL and used that IEP until services were in place for FL. Document everything, keep everything together and make sure you write down who you spoke to and when. Follow up and be a pain. As to testing her hearing again, actually, I don't see anything wrong with that. Her hearing may have changed from the CA tests until now. They probably want to know where to start from. In fact, when we were considerign moving from CA to PA, the hearing test was part of the WPSD assessemnt, so they had a good accurate point from which to start.
