I just joined your club, and boy I hope I can get some help. I'm so

tired tired tired of being overwight. yet I have no motivation, I

dont know if its just being lazy, or depressed, I just dont know. I

have lost alot of weight in the past and always gain that and more

back. I hope I can learn from this group and get the help I need. and

I hope I can help as well.

Thank You

Hello Angel, when I first started losing weight I used to force myself to

exercise until my body got used to it. Now it is like a natural thing. It

doesn't take long for the motivation to click in although I think we all lack

motivation from time to time. I guess it depends a lot on how life is treating

us. If you persevere you will get there......Take care.....Leanne

Welcome, Angel!! I'm sure most of us here have been through the

losing/gaining back with interest cycle, I know I sure have! I

believe we can all help each other get rid of the weight healthfully

and for good. =+)

Thanks Marni!! We are in Mineola, not far from you at all. I just signed

up with Mill Neck too, I cant wait to get started. I think Grace will really

thrive once she gets going. I really feel like no one else understand what

we are going thru and how much work is involved. I would love to chat more

off list. I'll email you shortly.

Hi Kathleen,

Welcome to the group. I usually lurk around here, but

there is a lot of good information posted by the

wonderful people here.

My son 10 months was diagnosed at birth with a

mod/sev hearing loss. We are also in Long Island,

East Meadow to be exact. We get EI 2x a week for 45

min and go to Mill Neck for the Center based program

from Dept of Ed. He goes there once a week for an

hour and they send a teacher to the house once a week

for 1 hour. got his hearing aids at about 4

months and is doing wonderful with them.

Where on LI do you live? and what program are you

going to? You can email me offline anytime you would

like.

Welcome, Kathleen! I'm so glad you're here. I'm Barbara, mom to two

boys. Tom is 14 and in 8th grade; Sam is 12 and in 6th grade. Both

have a cochlear implant in the right ear and a hearing aid in the left.

They both chose their right ear as their implanted ear because they're

right-handed - easier to control the buttons, etc. on their processors!

I just love the name Grace!

Take care

Interesting .... Ian is leaning towards having his left one done when/if the

times comes because it is currently his " bad " ear. I never thought about the

right-handed issue.

Our boys' ears are the same pretty much so it was their choice. We

thought too about when they start driving - their implanted ear is on

the right towards other people, etc. Of course by then, they both may

have bilaterals!

Another thought is that the right ear is controlled the left side of the

brain, where the language center is. I don't know how much stock I put into

this, but I have a few friends whose kids are on developmental programs that

emphasize being wholly one sided dominant.

I've heard that before as well. We, however, were a lot less scientific

about it! :-)

Hi Kathleen, Welcome to the group! Grace is very lucky to have you as you

already know ASL and have met deaf adults. I'm deaf myself, too and got a 1 year

old deaf daughter.

Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions, although I'm a pretty new

parent.
