I'm sure that it'lll make her proud and you and your husband really proud of the day. I used to volunteer with special olympics in the city. Last school year of couse I was voluntering in the elem clas with autistic kids. When they go on field trips, most of the time I'd go with them. A couple of times it was special olympics, and it was really cool to see how well the kids would do. The kids would be inpressied on what they could do and so would the teachers and the volunteer. I need to update her web site,since things have changed,but the pictures are current (http://wasborngmama.tripod.com/) For those that do not know Lindsey,she's had severe apraxia most of her life. Verbal but hard to understand. She's also a very shy little girl,that usually doesn't say a word when there lots going on,or people she's doesn't really know. We've struggled with low self esteem for a long time. Lindsey is now talking on the phone to her friends non stop! She's in summer school and has all the girls numbers in her class and is always borrowing my cell phone or the regular phone to talk. She is little obsessive about it leaving message after message if their not home, but we could not be happier. She acting more typical every day. And very happy! Everyone is understanding her for the most part and no one is giving her that 'stare anymore' anymore when's she's talking. She still sounds very immature for her age and still cant imitate words well at all,but she is a very functional 10 year old. She's reading,understanding and everything I worried so long about is working itself out. She's still delayed but again there's massive improvement and we are definitely seeing the light at the end of our tunnel. We stopped the private speech and OT several months ago and for once she has the time to be typical girl. She's had therapy since she was a baby so this is a welcome break,and what was needed for her.. Lately she's been going on the talking page and listening to the kids herself,and she also enjoys looking at her web site lol! she's gets around the web pretty good :-) She has her math/reading tutoring twice a week and that's it. The tutor has worked with her for years and is just as thrilled and says she's need to make an appointment with Lindsey these days, her schedule is getting fuller all the time lol! Anyway I just wanted to share and tell you all that its a long road,but there is hope. No one could understand the joy of seeing you child talk on the phone and be understood,but you all!
