Stevie:

I work for UNC and had Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I made it a point to get

authorization from Blue Cross for the Clinic Visit. Was approved for

the surgery and ended up having to pay the Clinic Fee. By the time Dr.

Rutledge's Office was billing me, I had thrown out the authorization

number. So I had to pay it. Surgery was completely paid for except

about $35 to the hospital.

Actually, most insurance companies DO cover the clinic fee (ask the great

Doc) as long as you get a referral to see a specialist (Dr R) from your PCP.

With my standard copay for a dr's visit, the clinic cost me all of $10 and

I've heard this from most attendees.

And yes, it is hard to understand, but often the companies will pay for

clinic and not surgery. But just because they agree and support your PCP's

feeling you need to get a specialist's opinion on a health issue-be it

morbid obesity, laseer surgery, plastic surgery, allergies, etc.-it doesn't

mean they will cover treatments or procedures even after the specialist

recommends them...

That's when you really have to begin to fight them! :)

And I thought my clinic fee was $250 a while ago...did he change them to

$225? I just figured he did...
