Stevia??

I was wondering if someone could give me info on Stevia? We have

used the powdered form of stevia for a long time now with Adrielle,

but was told that it could not be used on the diet. They said that

anything made into a powdered form has carbs in it. Even though it

says 0 carbs on the label I was told that they just weren't listing

the carb amount because it is less than 1 gram.

In my welcome email it said that a lot of parents on this list use

stevia. So is there a liquid form, or is the person I'm talking to

just not informed enough?? I've never seen a liquid form where I

purchase it.

thanks for the help!

Hi lisa,

we use the liquid form of stevia, it is a dropper, we buy it from a

natural food store here in seattle, If you have a whole foods by you,

they sell it, or you can buy it online. becareful not to buy the one w/

grapefruit seed extract though, as this can cause some interactions

with some meds, I know dilantin is one of them.

We had a carb free powdered form of stevia when we used to use it, (from a

health food store) but it was pretty hard to track down, all the others

contained maltodextrin. We have also used a luquid form in the past, but

that contained grapfruit seed extract and was on diazepam at the

time, so it was a big no no for him. As said though, you can get a

pure liquid form as as well,

Do you go to Children's in Cinncinatii? The dieticians there told

me the same thing (and that it is not approved for use in children)

That is also where the nuerologist so hooked on meds with similiar

comments to yours' was based) I use Stevia. I found a pure powdered

form that is pure stevia. You have to use the tiniest amount (It

comes with a tiny scoop.) Before that, I had used the type from the

grocery store that says no carbs, but it is mixed with something. I

use about 1/4 tsp of the mixed powder. The health food stevia is

pure, so I would use about 1/10 a tsp. I actually have had trouble

with the purer form, because I keep getting too much so the food

becomes over-sweet and even bitter. ANyway, there is a pure powdered

form of Stevia out there. I belelive stevia is safe. I mean,

especially compared to asparteme (which we also use in diet pop).

But the drug companies are powerful (in this case Monsanto). If has

fought approval of Stevia, because it would compete with

asparteme. (the only reason aspartame passed approval was due to a

president overly-friendly with big companies back in the 80s)
