Guest guest
I think the original comment was just an interesting observation, not necessarily pushing religion in any way. At least that is how I read it. I didn't feel offended. Kinda made sense in a way cuz you know that's how a lot of these viruses have spread to widely, thru blood transfusions in wartime, I forgot which World War that we started doing blood transfusions, I or II (I'm not good on my history sorry), but there was so much we didn't know then that we do now. Almost like die now or die later. I know everyone on here has the best intentions I took the original comment sort of like a philosophical observation. alley
Guest guest
Geraldine, I am fairly new to this list and didn't know that you are autistic. I was wondering if you could share about when you knew you were autistic and what that means for you now? Thanks. Jayne Nelsen

Guest guest
Cures: Dannilyn, I understand what you are saying about wanting to leave autism behind if you dont see signs of it in your child but i would like you to consider this: 1. If a person on the autism spectrum is considered cured, that person is working extremely hard, day and night to use strategies to mask who and what they are. I have lived like this and I know others who have too. There is a huge price. The saying " just be yourself " is not for us and we know that if we present as ourselves, we will be letting everyone down. If it is important to you that your child does not show signs of autism, you are giving that child a huge burden. The burden is that if, as one day will happen, it all becomes too much and they cannot sustain the mask of " normality " , that person will see themselves as a failure and as a less worthy person. That child or adult will lose what little self esteem a person who knows that who and what they are is nothing to be proud of. It is far better to bring the person up to understand their autism characteristics and to understand the purpose of those behaviours. That way the person can often (not always) make choices about how and where they exhibit these behaviours eg in giving a speech, rocking while standing up is not really satisfying to me, but I can stim away with a pebble in my pocket. During my daily life, I dont even think about rocking, but I know I do it briefly at many intervals during the day. I would ask you to consider that it is far better to give her pride in all that she is and encourage her to find strategies to assist with the difficulties than ever to aim for a " cure " . Guest guest
I myself have had problems socially. I find it hard to get a job that pays anything. Not that I dont have intelligence its just I dont do interviews well. Society judges books by its cover! I loose out on a job and the employers loose out on a good worker! I also get lonely before I met my husband. I too look normal as can be. People may think I am slow I go out of my way to mask and fit in. Does it work yes somewhat but I still cant blend in with the conceeded groups. Also cant get poloticians to listen to me! ---Original Message------- From: Autism_in_Girls Date: Friday, June 28, 2002 03:35:33 PM Autism_in_Girls Subject: RE: Digest Number 928 Cures: Dannilyn, I understand what you are saying about wanting to leave autism behind if you dont see signs of it in your child but i would like you to consider this: 1. Guest guest
Grace, Where do you get the # of Digest? I have always wondered that. If it is from memory or what? I am Jewish and I do not see people discussing religions and also Doc does not discuss it. We are a mixture of people, may it be religion, color, whatever. Connie If everyone was the same it would be boring. --- Grace <amazing_grace10@...> wrote: > If this is indeed a religious board or one that > discusses the difference between religions and all > that goes along with it - I'd like to know. Guest guest
Dear Terry, Although I don't know about the cancer connection, I would surely research that if I were you. As for the insomnia, I had it too. I slept in increments of 2-3 sometimes a blessed 4 hours in a row. Nothing worked for me either. But I was on disability leave and able to sleep whenever I could--not usually at night. The only recommendation my doc had for me was to sleep when I could because rest is crucial during treatment. Oh, yeah. And some pot. Pot helped me nap the day away, LOL. Hugs, Suzy Seeking info about Ribvarin(sp) Being a " potenial carcinogen " Hello all, This is Terry From Ohio. I haven't posted since I started TX 17 weeks ago, but I do read the postings.I'm interested if anyone has heard of anyone who has developed cancer after finishing treatment. I read in the Pegasys web site that Ribvarin Should be treated as a potential carcinogen and further testing was being done. I would appreciate any info on this. I am 1b and was clear at 12 weeks. The sides have been difficult so I would hate to continue if I'm going to have to undergo treatment for cancer after going through 48 weeks of this. Thanks for any help. This is a great group. I would post more if I was feeling better, but I guess you understand this. I have another question. This one regarding sleep or lack of. This has been a big problem for me. I've tried benydrl (sp), 100mg of Trazadone, Ambien and combinations of the above. I am still only getting 4-5 hours a night and find it difficult to work when I am so tired. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks again, Terry
