Your son qualifies but they don't have anything available??? That's giving with one hand, and taking away with the other.....what's the sense of qualifying if they don't have anyone to provide the summer services anyway??? Now THAT would burn me up........ Guest guest
yep, thats what we get every spring at end of school year, maybe we need to be more demanding of somethin, they have summer school for the ones who need to catch up or review, why cant they do it for nathan, he is behind in reading and math, and wont remember more than half from the year, its very frustriating!!! >From: Ltb3105@... >Reply-egroups >egroups >Subject: Re: Summer Services >Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000 17:58:08 EDT > >In a message dated 6/23/00 5:00:12 AM Pacific Daylight Time, >egroups writes: > ><< nathan qualifies for an extended year, but the school has no services to > provide so it sucks, >> >a: >Wait a minute! Guest guest
I just have a question about summer services. My son receives 90 minutes a week of speech from the school. This summer they are offering a total of 5 hours. The school is saying that they only have to maintain. Is there anyway to get more service for the summer? Guest guest
I'm with you. It is much more beneficial to get private therapy. I had a bad experience last year with the SPL at the public school my twins attend. I had already placed them in Loyola in Columbia MD for their " speech camp " and it coincided with ESY. Loyola's camp was Tues and Thurs from 9-11:30 and ESY was MTW from 9-12. Since I had already signed up and paid, I couldn't just pull out. The SPL from Rockburn Elem. wouldn't let my sons attend ESY on just Wed. She said it would be disruptive for them. Then she told me to come to her at 12:30 and they would receive one on one therapy. I did what she said, and it was only group therapy. Now that I've hired an advocate, the advocate blasted the SLP and things are going much, much better for me. In fact after the first meeting with my advocate the public school SLP never showed again. There was always someone in her place. They said she had a family emerg., she was sick, etc. I was very happy! Joanne Mulholland <mulholland34@...> wrote: Terry, The summer extended year program at most districts is a skeleton crew. It is not as structured as the school year and if you usually get 1:1 or small group therapy, ESY will provide group therapy only. It was more beneficial for my child to get private therapy. All the best, Joanne
