Development Delay/Controlled seizures

Our Shan is another story of development delay, but when the seizures are

controlled she moves forward. And, even when the seizures were not

controlled the diet enabled her to learn. She learned to read while having

nightly seizures.

Shan joined our family at age 17 months. We knew she had epilepsy. The

seizures were controlled by meds. She was moderately developmentally

delayed and had moderate left sided weakness prior to starting the meds.

Thankfully, the next 5 years the seizures were controlled and she moved

forward developmentally. When she turned 6 the seizures came back and she

began to regress. After starting the diet she has continued to move

forward. At age 9 (she's presently 9) we bought her a scooter with bike

tires (she quit riding her bike which has trainers because her younger

brother learned to ride his bike without trainers). We have been thrilled

to watch her go from pushing herself all over the place to gaining

confidence and mastering how to balance and coast on it. Yesterday I was

thrilled, teary eyed, and full of thankfulness to look our the kitchen

window and watch her learn to ride her brother's bike. She was very

determined and her brother followed her around as she worked at it. And,

she did it! She has figured out how to pedal and balance on the bike. You

should have seen her proud, elated face, as well as, her brother's proud

face when he shared that he helped her learn to ride a bike. I look

forward to when she gains enough skill and confidence to where she will ride

her own bike which is bigger than her brothers. I had not thought I would

see her learn to ride a bike this year....or next...

No one can predict what our special kids will do. Given days with fewer or

no seizures they are full of endless potential and surprises!

Rhonda (mom to Shan, age 9, keto kid over 2.5 years)
