So is carnitine really thought to do wonders for children's development??? Is

that what I am reading? You mean if I supplement it, even though she has not

tested deficient, she could reap multiple benefits???? Trying to figure this

all out.... , 's mum

Kristan's carnitine level is normal, but we were using it to see if

it would help raise her ketones and it did a little, not enough to

control the seizures, but I find it helps with her bowel movements,

as I have stopped giving her a laxative for the bowel movements.

I think it is carb free also.

Thanks for a straight answer. Children naturally move ahead in development. I

think a lot of what we are seeing is arrested development because of the

seizuring. When they cease, the child resumes moving ahead. At least that is

how it has been with . I saw very little go on in her life for almost three

years. Now, she is color matching and coloring in the lines independently.

This is a new " biggy " for her. She names yellow pretty consistently, and knows

color names, but hasn't just quite learned which is which. And, potty training

became more of a reality after keto and seizure control. I am amazed how some

children do well even with seizures, as far as age appropriateness, but for many

of us in this group it simply is not so. With folks giving carnitor the

credit... I really wondered if I was missing something. And, I do not need to

add a " mystery " ingredient into the diet, when she is doing so well seizure wise

right now. Thanks for your honest answer... .

I don't know , I have only read posts where parents say it has

helped with their children's development. As I said earlier, we

tried it only to raise ketones and I am sticking with it b/c I think

it is doing a little something for her as when she had pneumonia

recently and was on antibiotics and I had stopped the Carnitor I had

noticed a jump in the seizures. I was relucant to try it as the

insert does say it can cause more seizures in people with pre-

existing seizures, but in our case, we've been ok and I am hoping

that since she is on it we will see more gains in her development. I

had asked Kristan's keto neuro if Carnitor helps with development and

he never gave me a straight answer, but basically was saying that

they have no studies to show it helps with development.
