Guest guest
Hi- I am new to this forum and though iu have not read post of the topics here i feel that this could be a good forum to express my anxiety on my daughter's speech delay. History - My daughter is almost three ( 34 months, August born)and she is not speaking as well as she sould at this age. Her comprehension is also delayed by maybe about a year. She babbles a lot. When she was 2 i got into the ECI program which started 3-4 months after enrolling, speech therapist who came home said that she is about 12-15 months behind. Anyway that did not work out since her co-ordinator kept changing and finally this person came for about a month, somehow my daughter could not work well with her. She is used to getting her way and her speech patholigist was also new to this, just out of college, so things did not work out. My dauhhter threw a tantrum for all 40 minutes out of 45 minute session so we were not doing much at all. We stopped that after a month and a half. And since then my daughter has been home. I have another child, my son who is older by 18 months and he did not have any problem, if anything he was super fast doing everything. We are bilingual at home, but after her etherapy sessions i am making sure i talk only in English with my daughter so there is jo risk of confusing her with two. Present- Now she is better than she was 6 months ago, she can say more words, though some may need prompting, she is not able to repeat after every word, she has her won opwrds as well, sometimed for certain things. She says about couple 2 or 3 word sentences. like " we go by-bye " which is her version of " lets go by-bye " and then she has also started calling her brother by name, she says " manu, come e " just like i say " manu come here " . She invites him to play and she plays veryw ell, cuddles a lot and loves to dance and play and just hug. She does come up to me and say " hug " every once in a while just to hug. Sometimes she says " what's that " or " where pe " for where's pen. Am teaching her to say " give me cheetoh " when she needs one, she does say that cleearly but only when i ask her to say it. She does follow certain instructions like " put it in trach " etc which she did nto know like 4 months ago. Question - She seesms to be improving but somehow maintianing the 12 month gap. Does she have any other issues, or is it just a normal delay that certain kids have sometimes. Her understanding is also delayed. And she talks a lot all the time, gibberish, babbles does not make sense. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced the same. Does she have any major problem?
