Guest guest
I know that we all have our things that we struggle with but I have had three sinus infections in a month and 1/2. Does anyone know of anything that could maybe help prevent them. The doctor said it could be that it is taking longer to heal because of the Lupus or because the plaquenil lowers my immune system. Either way, I would like to get well. These sharp headaches have lasted so long, I am losing sleep. They are hard enough to wake me up at night and keep me really tired all day. Any suggestions??? Guest guest
Nathalie, Have you been doing a daily routine with Saline nasal washes? Also, you might ask your doctor for a steroid nasal spray that is used daily to prevent sinus problems. I do the nasal washes while in the shower. It's private, washes everything down the drain, and I don't get upset at the process like I did when trying to do it at the sink. Just a suggestion. Good luck, and keep us posted on progress. Guest guest
It was not until I started going to an Ear, Nose, & Throat doctor that I finally got my sinus infections under control. I was told .. wash the sinuses with a mild saline solution.. then was put on a very long round of antibiotics. The doctor told me that the normal rounds of antibiotics would not get rid of all the deep seated infections in the sinus cavities. So I was given 3 weeks worth of antibiotics rather than 7 days. Guest guest
Nathalie: I used to get sinus infections on a regular basis due to my allergies. During my pregnancies I couldn't take anything that would go into the bloodstream, but there were two things that really helped. One was the Afrin 12 hour Sinus Spray Drops (something like that). You have to remember though that you can only use them for three days at a time and then you need to stop for a few days. The other thing that helped was just plain water inhalations. Boil a pot of water, lean over it and cover your head and pot with a towel (if you can). Whether you cover or not just sit there for 5 minutes inhaling through the nose. Repeat this at least 5 times daily. It really does help because it moisturizes the membranes. Also, drink a lot of water. Sinuses need moisture. Good luck, hope that helps a bit. Guest guest
That is true about the antibiotics. That is what my ENT told me as well.
