Guest guest
I posted about a month ago about a fungal infection of the kidney that my mother was suffering. She didn't have PSC but I knew folks here would have experience with infections and sepsis. Joanne and urged me to go to see her, which I did. The doctors didn't expect her to recover, but during the time I was there she did rally a bit in spite of having suffered septic shock. She probably suffered from brain ischemia because of the drop in blood pressure, and her recovery would have been difficult because she had a residual fungal mass in one kidney, a constant source of potential reinfection. I knew of Penny's survival after a massive fungal infection, so that gave me some hope. However, she passed away from heart failure on Dec 13, at age 86, one day short of her 60th wedding anniversary. I was glad I could be with her to make her life more comfortable, advocate for her medically, and take a little weight off my sister. She inspired me with her determination to walk after her stroke, and fighting off the depression that she had suffered from at various points in her life, and I will take that for a model when PSC starts dishing out its worst to me. I appreciate very much the support and advice I get from this group, even when I digress from the topic. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year. Martha (MA) Martha - I'm sorry about your mom. It is always hard to lose a parent, no matter what age, and whether the death was expected or not. And this is an especially difficult time of year. I am glad you had the opportunity to be with her. Will be thinking of you. Take care. Joanne (, Ca)
