Guest guest
I also refer to it as a condition (which it really is!). I was diagnosed with UC 29 years ago, PSC (almost) 7 years ago. I was 26 when I was diagnosed with UC - hale and hearty, athletic, boundless energy, etc. After the sigmoidoscopy (colonoscopies were " newfangled " then), the Dr. said " you have ulcerative colitis and will have to take this medication for the rest of your life " . A pretty daunting statement. He was mostly correct, although I was meds-free for 2 of the first 5 years. PSC came much later, and with a couple of hospitalizations ( & 3 ER visits). About the only thing that's consistent for us PSCers is that everyone is different. Since bile duct dilatation and stenting in 2001 (and gallbladder removal), I've been symptom free. No elevated LFTs, no jaundice, no cholangitis episodes, etc. Granted, I may not be typical in that respect. I can still run 10 miles a week, canoe for 7 days in the wilderness, bale hay for several hours, just at a slower pace (due to age, not PSC!). Diagnosis is a tough time, but you've found the right place. Please take a look at the FAQs on http://home.insightbb.com/~rhodesdavid/FAQ.htm for starters, then ask away! - and welcome! Arne 55 - UC 1977, PSC 2000 Alive and (mostly) well in Minnesota ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of shoesicecream Hi, My name is Cindy and I am 35 years old and on April 14, 2006 I was diagosed with Ulterative Colitis and on November 14, 2006 I was diagosed with PSC. I am going through the emotions you deal with when you have a life condition (I refer to it as a condition because I have a hard time saying the " d " word). I really don't have alot of symtoms just some " itching " from time to time. Everything I have read regarding PSC all seem so negative I realize that there is not alot of research on PSC so it seems like all you hear the worse cases. Can someone tell me how long they have had PSC. Hope to hear from you soon. Have a Happy New Year.

Hi Cindy Welcome - as you read through the previous postings you will see that there are all ages with PSC and we seem to take all different routes to get here - from dramatic hospital visits with infections to people like yourself with few symptoms. Please do ask lots of questions, I have been here for 18 months ( and are still learning and am amazed at the knowledge and caring of this group. I was diagnosed with PSC on my birthday 18 months ago, a specialist thinks I may have had PSC for 15 to 25 years with only fatigue as a symptom - When I had a blood test for Cholestrol, it showed I have elevated LFTs which pointed the way to this disease...sorry condition - grin. Best wishes - just PSC 7/06 - from the bottom of the world in New Zealand
