Guest guest
We just started school yesterday. I sent with my son a baggie of gf potato chips, tangerine, sliced green peppers (his favorite), juicy juice boxes, water, dora cereal in a baggie, gf blueberry muffin, a slice of banana bread and a gf candy for treat. He said I sent too much yesterday and not to send so much anymore! LOL. I just wanted him to have a snack if need be! Guest guest
Zanna I hope you don't take offense, but that meal is very sugar laden. You might want to add more fresh veggies and protein. Guest guest
Shez, no offense, just trying to figure things out too. He usually eats his fruit first anyway, he loves that. He had a whole green pepper and tangerine and brought home most of the rest. I am still new to this and we aren't eating cheese yet but in a few months, he will be taking string cheese as well. I am just happy to find someting gf! Maybe some cooked chicken, cut up and put in a bag. He would probably like that too. The juicy juice is 100% juice too. So, as far as juice boxes go it is probably the better choice. He takes apple juice and water. Guest guest
--My daughter's school heats her lunch, so she can bring anything. I put it to them like this, every child deserves to have a hot lunch provided and it is unfair to her and unhealthy to eat a cold sandwich type lunch everyday! I did not make it as a request, I made it as a have to. If they are not willing (and you don't want to risk it) to make a GF lunch available, then they don't have a choice. It is not unreasonable. YOU ARE YOUR CHILD'S ONLY ADVOCATE, SO DON " T SETTLE AND DON'T GIVE UP! Good luck! - In SillyYaks , Zanna wrote: > > We just started school yesterday. Guest guest
Another thing we like: I like to make "wraps" with the Food For Life rice tortillas. Just soften them up a bit in the micro, put in the filling you like(mine likes roast beef lunch-meat) by Meyer, roll up, then wrap tightly in saran wrap( like a tube). What great is it still stays in the tube shape even after it is unwrapped. I usually send some fruit along with it, and a bottle of water. Guest guest
Zanna, Right now it is probably too hot for him to think about eating it but you could put stuff like chicken noodle/rice soup in a thermos. I found our kids thermos could have a lot of things in them that kept them hot. It also gives you an option for when you are wanting hot meals for his lunches ast he weather gets colder. Hope that helps. -----Original Message-----From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ]On Behalf Of ZannaSent: Tuesday, August 22, 2006 6:04 PMTo: SillyYaks Subject: Re: Re: list your lunch ideas for school Shez, no offense, just trying to figure things out too. Guest guest
This is a cute idea shared by (M H" mom2sidkid@... ) about lunch ideas: gf bread bites and cheese bites for dipping into packed pizza sauce Thanks for sharing.... My arising kindergartener is quite the "dip-ster." She likes to dip almost everything in ranch dip. I'm going to try your idea. (I do this already, but make a homemade "mini pizza" type "lunchable.") Guest guest
I use lunchables too, and I cut out the plastic over, say, the crackers, and wash it out and then replace with my sons crackers...or I buy the taco one, open it and replace with a baggie of our own tortilla's (I make mini ones for him anyway bc he's only 4 so this works great) I also buy the hamburger/hot dog ones and toss out the buns. These are GREAT for those field trips where they don't want to take containers of stuff...."and all the other kids are doing it" too. They are horribly unhealthy otherwise, but once in a while what the heck! :-) From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ] On Behalf Of Melonie KatzSent: Wednesday, August 23, 2006 4:38 PMTo: SillyYaks Subject: Re: list your lunch ideas for school This is a cute idea shared by (M H" mom2sidkid (AT) yahoo (DOT) com ) about lunch ideas: gf bread bites and cheese bites for dipping into packed pizza sauce Thanks for sharing....
