Guest guest
, Thanks for being excited with me. Yes, is still on the 3:1 ratio which is a pretty easy ratio imo thankfully. He is happy as long as he gets oatmeal. And oatmeal makes me happy because it hides the fat very well. He has had tremendously reduced seizures since last Tuesday now. The last 3 days we have only seen 2 sz each day!!! Just a week ago he was having hundreds per day. Question: I haven't been doing 's ketosticks much lately. I was doing them daily and they were always very high, higher than the highest (immediate deep purple). This was when he was having hundreds of szs per day. When he suddenly stopped having so many szs last week I sorta stopped doing the keto sticks until last night. Both last night and this morning his sticks were in the small to medium range. Is this good? Or does this mean he might need to raise his ratio? How will I know when we need to raise the ratio? I'm so glad I have you experienced moms and dads to lean on. I pray for each of you daily. Pam and , age 8 ________________________________________________________________ Get your name as your email address. Guest guest
Oh, wow, Pam! Sounds like the reason he was having all the seizures is because his ketones were too high. If the ketostix turn dark immediately it means ketones are dangerously high...and may mean acidosis. High ketones are fine, but not that high. My has medium ketones all day that build to high just before bed. It works great for her. Too, make sure he is getting his fluid allotment, because that alone can cause ketones to go high if he isn't drinking enough. On the other hand, too many fluids is not good as " washes " them. Sounds like he is doing well where he is. If ketones stay there and he continues with two seizures... you will want to tweek the diet. You may wish to raise the ratio a bit, or you may want to look at his calories. Check his weight. Is he gaining and not growing taller? This happened to my daughter - a rapid weight gain. With lowered calories she got high ketones on a LOWER ratio. Keep track of ketones. Do them at least twice a day - mid morn and mid-afternoon. I usually do them more often. Log them to see a pattern; log seizures. In a week or two's time you will know the pattern and can begin tweeking. I was more lax on using the multistix at first, too, as everything was going so well for us at first. Then went into acidosis. I did not know the stix are not suppose to turn dark immediately. Now I check her ketones frequently. Keep posting for ideas... sometimes things are obvious to others that aren't to us when we are in the midst of the trial! Blessings... . " capnmacncrew@... Guest guest
On the diet you do what works. Sorry can't be more helpful. If you promise to keep better records, you will be better able to decide what is the best course to follow. Bill capnmacncrew@... wrote: > , > Thanks for being excited with me.
