Conference on disABILITY " Being, Belonging, and Becoming: Mobilizing Partnerships to Enhance the Quality of Life for Individuals with Disabilities " October 18-20, 2006 Peggy , M.S. is a regional and national consultant on employer partnerships and employment of people with disabilities to rehabilitation organizations, government entities and private sector employers. J. Imparato is the first full-time president and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), a national non-profit, non-partisan membership organization of people with disabilities, their family members and supporters that was founded in 1995. With more than 120,000 members, AAPD is the largest cross-disability membership organization in the United States. Prior to joining AAPD, he was general counsel and director of policy for the National Council on Disability. Lee Grossman is currently president and CEO of the Autism Society of America (ASA) and the Autism Society of America Foundation, as well as a member of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC), which coordinates federal efforts in autism research and services amongst all federal agencies. He is the cochair of the services subcommittee of the IACC, which is charged with designing and implementing a national services road map for autism spectrum disorders across the lifespan. Additionally, he is a member of the Institute of Rehabilitation Issues of the Rehabilitation Services Administration, which works for standards for vocational rehabilitation counselors dealing with individuals who are affected by autism spectrum disorders through transition and into the work force. He has three sons, one of whom has autism. Wenzel is a retired veteran of the United States Army and a former mayor of Scranton. He has been a person with a disability since 1971, when a land mine accident in Vietnam resulted in the loss of his legs, left hand, and the vision in his left eye. He was appointed by President Bush to serve on the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency charged with making recommendations to the President and Congress regarding policies and programs aimed at providing equal opportunity for all individuals with disabilities. Mr. Wenzel also teaches a course on the Vietnam conflict at The University of Scranton. ph Gaskin is the father of Lydia Gaskin, who was named in the historic settlement of litigation designed to change the quality of special education services throughout Pennsylvania.
