Guest guest
Personally, I always increased the dosage by observing the speech surges, and when she leveled off. Typically every 6 months. Otherwise, your child would eventually be getting dozens of capsules. I'm confused about all of this. I have read the Late Talker and they don't address this issue. How long do you wait to see progress before increasing your child's dose? If you see no improvement, how long do you keep giving/increasing fish oil? If you do see improvement, do you expect that your child will be taking fish oil throughout adulthood? Forever? Thank you for your help. I feel like I'm in a canoe without a paddle. Guest guest
Dawn, Thank you for your reply! I do understand that everyone's situation is different, I suppose I'm just trying to get an idea of the big picture. What has me stuck is the increase every six months.... If a child started at 3 yrs... by 7 yrs, he or she would be taking about 8 capsules a day...by 10 yrs, it would be 14 capsules....surely that isn't what happens? I apologize if that sounds like a stupid question....I'm new to this idea and am trying to get it in its entirety. I will definitely check out the book you mentioned. Thank you! Guest guest
Brandelyn, To be honest, even after 2 years of dealing with the apraxia dx, and supplementing with fish oil, speech therapy, ot, yada yada yada. Sometimes I still feel like I don't have a paddle in my boat. As far as " when to increase " . That I really can't answer for you. I can really only tell you " what works for us " . And that has been about every 6 months. And only 1 capsule at a time. However, do to recent events, I will now be cutting back a bit. (I'm fearful of a regression in her speech though) And yes, IMO, this is for the rest of her life. Not strictly to help with her speech, but because EFA's, are just that. Essential. They will help her in so many ways for the rest of her life. Of course when she is an adult, she does have the freedom to choose what she wants. But it is my job to educate her to the best of my ability of the benifits of the EFA's Even if I saw no improvement, or very little, I would still give them to her on a daily basis. Because even though I might not *see* it working, it doesn't mean it's not. Kind of like you don't see the positive results of taking a daily vitamin. But you know its doing its job. There are several books on the topic of EFA's, Omega 3's. The Omega 3 Connection is a book that has been suggested to me recently. Supposedly it gets down to the nitty gritty of the EFA's. I will be reading this soon. I'm sure there are tons of other books out there too. And of course here on the net.
