Re: changes - how often

You are doing things correctly. The problem with the diet is that each

person reacts differently depending on their particular metabolism and

individual characteristics. If you are getting 16 ketones that is where

you should be. There can be an initial weight loss when starting the

diet. There is the fast then partial meals. As well, I understand that

with Atkins there is an initial weight loss which is from water loss as

the body adjusts to ketosis. This may or may not be a fact. What I mean

to say is that the initial weight loss is not significant as there is or

are good reasons to explain it. What is important is what happens now.

Does weight go up or down from now on.

You have changed the ratio slightly and it seems to have helped with too

high ketones. You may have to adjust it in the future if ketones change

again or you want to try to get better seizure control.

Calories could be too high or too low or okay. Usually you will have to

adjust them. Many people are very sensitive to calorie levels and

usually they are too high at the beginning of the diet. 1500 calories

seems like it could be okay or too high or too low. My daughter is on

830 calories. I determined this from months of trial and error.

It is normal to see some lethargy from the state of ketosis as well as a

diminished appetite. Since you saw no seizures during the first 2 days,

you have a very good chance of getting that result in the long term. You

could be getting problems from reflux and constipation. They can

interfere with the diet. If you are still using medications there can

also be problems as they seem to operate differently when combined with

the diet.

Keep detailed records of everything; weight, height, fluids, meals, etc.

We usually make changes every 2 weeks unless there is something critical.

Good luck,

Bill
