Guest guest
, we are going through Children's Hospital of WI. I have never met any other families that have done keto here, but this is where everything is for us for the last 2 years. I know it's a small program, everyone keeps talking about team, what exactly does the keto " team " normally consist of? We have neuro and dietician... I have been very careful to be sure he gets his water, especially since he's been constipated also. Had to do a glycerin suppository today and boy was he still struggling to go! Hopefully it'll ease up soon, i'm getting tired already and it's been less than a week... Thanks again, hugs,
Guest guest
Hi, My " team " is the same as yours. And I was told the dietitian had 90 children she was servicing, and I was taught nothing really. This site has been a blessing beyond words to me and for little . I have learned much. Some folks are able to factor into the diet some bran or other fiber to relieve constipation. I intend to do that. I am careful to use lots of lettuce in 's diet, and it helps...but we seem always to have constipation at our door. I am upping supplements, so that with the vitamin being incomplete in magnesium and biotin, for example, I am giving more of those two things, upping her intake to 100% recommended amount. The magnesium I have been told really helps relieve constipation, and helps calcium absorption. Calcium can be really constipating. She takes a calcium supplement. The first few weeks are always the most strenuous of anything new. Don't let it get you down. Those weeks I felt like all I did was shop for food and fix meals... and believe me, they weren't much. Now, I have most everything I need in all the time and meals are easy for me, though it seems it does take much time fixing two meals. I try to mimic her meal to ours, but, face it, sometimes it just doesn't work. She can really get upset when she sees favorites that she no longer can have, and many meals she eats first, then the rest of us eat. This is not ideal, but she is delayed, and no amount of explaining why she eats differently means anything to her. It makes me feel bad for her. However, the fact that she is feeling so much better with seldom a seizure is worth every bit of the effort. EVERY BIT!!! I hate those nasty seizures! Do continue to make sure he gets his fluid allotment. For constipation I have tried Colace, Milk of Magnesia and Mineral Oil. My pick is the Mineral Oil or M of M, as Colace didn't seem to work. Remember, constipation can cause seizuring in some children, so you don't want to undo the effectiveness of the diet with constipation. However, you don't want him to be reliant on a laxative, so diet fiber is important. Hang in there! It does get easier, except for the snags. Still, just think if he will become seizure free. Kind of makes it all worthwhile. I pray over the food, asking that it will be blessed to 's body for this very purpose. Oh, how I hate seizures. Blessings... . luvmybrats2 hellian1@...> wrote: , we are going through Children's Hospital of WI.
