Guest guest
Again. We just got home last night from restarting the diet after being off for a year about. I have to admit that this time around it has been a NIGHTMARE! Not sure how many of you would remember us, or some may know us from EFA, but i'm , mom to 6yo Kalob who has epilepsy resulting from a traumatic brain injury. We just got home from the hospital last night where we've been since last Thursday, when Kalob went completely unresponsive after what were guessing was a seizure. I say it like that because he normally doesn't have a post ictal period after seizures (myoclonic jerks). We were supposed to be admitted on Tuesday to start keto but they just kept us over the weekend and we started on Monday. I hate to bombard everyone, but we are already having PROBLEMS! We didn't go through this last time, last time things went smoothly. They sent Kalob home last night, but he's vomiting EVERYTHING since we've been home. He was in the hospital but they figured that he would be fine, that he just had a bad day. Personally I think his ratio may be too high, and he's too ketotic?? When you test his urine, the strip instantly goes darker than the darkest block on the bottle. He keeps going through periods of EXTREME sleepiness, spaciness, throws up, doesn't want to eat. Then, if we give him sugar water (the dietician showed me to do this) he perks right up. His dexi in the hospital went as low as 54, but mainly ranged 59-67. THey didn't send us home with a monitor but my husbands cousin has one and i've been checking it anyway. I'm nervous, and scared for him. Part of me wants to say screw the diet, but this is our last non-surgical option and the only surgical option we have is VNS so were giving this our all. Any tips? Ideas? Why is this happening? He is on a 4:1 ratio and at 1250 calories. I'm gonna try to slow drip a ketocal meal into him this am and see how he does, i've given him his meds early so that if he does vomit those will stay down. I'm fearing were gonna end up back in for dehydration if this doesn't stop soon, he threw up just sugar free jello last night! And the neurologist that was on call when I paged him got upset cuz I woke him up! The dietician had told me once before that if something like this happened they should page her but they insist theres no way to get in touch with her... UGH! Sorry for the book here, i'm terrified. I hope to get to know you all better, and look forward to seeing those of you that I do know from EFA's site... Thanks for anything that you guys can add to this, ya ole pros! hehe...
