Have you checked to make sure she is not too ketotic? Do you flavor her cream?

We use liquid sweet & low and pure flavorings like Bickford Flavors for the

cream. We used to freeze it for ice cream, but now we just give it by oral

syringe. (my son's choice.) How old is she? Would she eat if the food were on a

special plate or in special bowls (like Barbie, animals, etc.) Do you have

certain meals she would eat? Can you ask for those meals to be calculated by the

dietician? We found one or two meals at the beginning that my son loved and

that's what he ate for a long time until he opened up to more foods. Definitely

talk to your doctor and dietician to see what they think & can do. It's

wonderful that she has responded positively already to the diet, so you know

that it can work for you.

She hates the butter and the cream. Does anyone have any ideas to

help us? When she initially started the diet she ate great, and her

seizures were drastically reduced. She was able to walk indpendently

for virtually the first time in about a year. Her quality of life

seemed to be improving, but this only lasted about 2 weeks. Her

seizures are still improved from the past (she's having 20-30 a day

now), but her quality of life is no better than before the diet. She

is lethargic, she is not sleeping well and meal times are a

disaster. Can anyone help?

Check her carnitine level. Lethargy, low tone, clumsiness are side

effects of low carnitine levels. Ask your doctor about carnitor (the

prescription kind), and make sure to ask about a titration schedule

to check if your daughter can tolerate it.

Good luck.
