Guest guest Posted September 24, 2006 Report Share Posted September 24, 2006 Okay - I am seeing amazing results in my ADHD daughter on the ProEFA/EPA and High Gamma Tocopherols. I believe I was seeing results using the same with my apraxic son. However, he has severe reflux, and i think he aspirated on the supplements, which then caused a chain reaction of asthma like symptoms and a cold. Very typical when he aspirates. I have held off on everything for him until I get him more stable medically. Any way - I know mentioned a more pure Vitamin E to use in addition to the High Gamma I am using, does any one remember what that was? When I go to the store I have only found Vitamin E with mixed tocopherols and I am not sure if that is what I need to add to the High Gamma. I also want to use the more pure Vitamin E with my Autistic son. He uses flax seed oil but not the other omegas. For what ever reason when I tried them before his behaviors acerbated...and he is already one heck of a handful. If I wanted to get a blood work work up - what would I be asking? A doctor/patient relationship is a personal thing......Follow your gut... do what you can....and go with whom ever you feel good about..... She was fantastic and I really appreciated her "no nausea and pain block for 3 days" surgery. If you're from out of state they can see you one day for pre-op and do surgery the next. I've heard really good things about all of the doctors listed below. What do your instincts tell you? I too was so confused trying to search for a good PS and bit stressed in the process wondering who can do the proper job etc, but Dede is right going with your gut instinct is a good idea. Once you choose the doctor it's best to trust him/her, forget and relax and believe everything will go well. A chemistry between patient and doctor has to come from trust and healing comes from that energy exchange. Best of luck! He believes that it dissolves. This is not supported in the medical research at all. However, he removes the scar tissue if you have silicone implants. So, you must ask him about this and make sure he understands that your desire is to have a total capsulectomy and removal ALL scar tissue out of your body. It sees your implant as a foreign invader, so it builds up a tissue to contain it. Some scar capsule tissue is thick and rubbery and can contain even spilled silicone within itself, but other capsules can be paper-tissue thin and very permeable. Either way, it is a vector for silicone related substances and organisms, and in the best interest of your health it is a good idea to have all capsules removed. Dr. Pierre Blais, Dr. Kolb and Dr. Feng are in complete agreement on this subject, and have told us so. I trust their good judgment in the matter....better safe than sorry! Explant with Feng was $8,250 and reconstructive would've been additional $14,500 (so over 20K for all). I could only affored explant. He called me back a couple hours later and talked to me for at least a half hour I asked him all kinds of questions and the last question I asked him was why are you so much less expensive than everyone else? He said I feel bad that all these women paid all this money to get implants in and we all believed they were safe, now they are sick and they need them out, I charge a fair price but I'm not going to take advantage of people in a bad situation that is not why I'm a doctor. I thought wow that says a lot. I also loved the fact that he does not will not put implants in anymore. He quite doing it years ago when he realized it was making women sick. I found him to be the most compassionate one of all. I am going to be using him. I hope since a lot of people are trying to find a doctor by posting my finding this helps. I also want to say the price made no difference in my decision I was looking for the person I felt most qualified. They are a teaching hospital, she does the surgery and is Chief of Plastic Surgery Department and specializes in cancer patients. They are EXTREMELY REASONABLE...around $5k all inclusive. My surgical team was 2nd to NONE and listened to my concerns, which were many given severe drug allergies and sensitivities. Guest guest Posted March 26, 2011 Report Share Posted March 26, 2011 Dr. Hiatt in Arizona made a comment about regular explant without a lift when I was talking over options with him, it makes me mad Feng charges $8k for explant when Hiatt said that an explant takes about 10 minutes and he could do it in his office! (then said a lift would be about 4 hours) Melmeds office told me about a yr ago on the phone 8k for explant with lift, Kolbs said 10k but my insurance supposedly will pay half in which I wouldn't know what I'd get exactly till I get the reimbursement...I just dk anymore. We are hoping my husband wins this account so we can pay for someone somewhere to do it. I hate life. I have spoke to three doctors so far Dr.Feng who quoted me $14,300.00 Dr.Kolb who quoted between $9000.00 and $11,000.00 couldn't give me an exact quote until they saw me, finally Dr. Melmed he quoted me $6945.00. I talked to Dr.Feng's assistant for about a half hour she explained the procedure in detail and was very nice. I talked to Dr Kolb's assistant for about 20 minutes then Dr. kolb called me back and spoke with me herself for ten minutes seemed nice. so I went ahead and made an appointment but something just wasn't sitting right with me when people started posting things about her so I felt like I needed to look farther and today I spoke with Dr. Melmed's assistant who was the nicest out of all of them. She answered my questions and told me she would have the doctor call me back. He called me back a couple hours later and talked to me for at least a half hour I asked him all kinds of questions and the last question I asked him was why are you so much less expensive than everyone else? He said I feel bad that all these women paid all this money to get implants in and we all believed they were safe, now they are sick and they need them out, I charge a fair price but I'm not going to take advantage of people in a bad situation that is not why I'm a doctor. I thought wow that says a lot. I also loved the fact that he does not will not put implants in anymore. He quite doing it years ago when he realized it was making women sick. I found him to be the most compassionate one of all. I am going to be using him. I hope since a lot of people are trying to find a doctor by posting my finding this helps. I also want to say the price made no difference in my decision I was looking for the person I felt most qualified. Guest guest Posted March 26, 2011 Report Share Posted March 26, 2011 I went to Dr. Hiatt, and my surgery was about 4 hours with lift, but there is one thing that is for sure....a PROPER explant does not take about 10 minutes!!!! It might take 10 minutes if all they do is slit you open and yank out the implants, but to do it right with a total capsulectomy will take several hours. It is so important to get this surgery done right....I would not risk going to someone who did not take this surgery as seriously as it needs to be taken. Having been in this issue for over 12 years now, and seeing all kinds women go through explant and having to make a decision about choosing the right doctor, I will say that the choices of doctors who have the integrity to do right by the women have never been more limited. I wish we could go to any plastic surgeon and know that they are going to explant properly. But that is simply not the case. Politics has gotten in way, again. I have no vested interest in promoting any doctor over another. I live a life far removed from the medical field in general. But I will say that if you want a hassle free explant doctor who will get the job done, go with Dr. Feng, Dr. Kolb, or Dr. Huang. Dr. Melmed is wonderful, but make sure he will remove the scar tissue if you have saline implants. Otherwise, be prepared to look long and hard for the right doctor. It took 2 hours because I did not bleed and there were no complications and she was able to get everything out and scrubbed in the chest cavity that needed to be done. Insurance will NOT pay for lifts, new implants or anything classified as reconstruction, so be aware of that. If they pay 'half' find out of what. If you go out of service area read your policy and expect them to deny you, despite what you are told. There are very good surgeons everywhere, many who are not referred on these sites that women have found and had excellent results with...I live in Oregon and thought it was crazy to think I'd have to travel more than 4-5 hours for the surgery. I ended up finding two very qualified surgeons...one in Eugene an Dr. Hansen at OHSU in Portland. I went with Dr. Hansen because it was a hospital setting vs. plastic surgery 'surgi-center'. I knew if there were complications, every imaginable specialist was right THERE and I'd be fine. I also knew I'd have the best anesthcia, etc. The inclusive price for a capsulectomy was under $5k. I chose not to have a left, feeling that I wanted to give my body a year to heal before I went through more trauma...I am very happy with my decision, as I was pretty darn flat prior to implants and I still am...but I think I'll be fine in a year. I have necrosis that has caused my left breast to look pretty sad...but this is life and the other option would have been keep implants...to me that wasn't an option. I'm so glad you found a good doctor nearby. I had to travel myself, and was glad I did. Many women travel, only because they go through local consultations with very poor outcomes. I've heard some real horror stories. Definitely we want to be able to give women more options for finding qualified surgeons for explant! Every state if possible! Unfortunately, there are too many " politically correct surgeons " out there, and my own explanting surgeon sounds like he changed his tune, which disappoints me greatly. She doesn't come out and say that implants are making women ill, but after me, she may begin. What is MOST important in my mind, is she is a very talented and knowledgeable surgeon, is associated with one of the top ten hospitals for patient care and satisfaction in the COUNTRY and OHSU is REASONABLY priced. She has now consulted with 4-6 other women from another group and 2 or 3 scheduled their surgery with her. I'll be assisting one woman in another month. This woman has had her implants over 30 years and after 'interviewing' all the top surgeons listed, decided that Dr. Hansen was the best. There is also a Dr. Jewell in Eugene, Oregon that I contemplated using, as he was 2 hours closer to where I was living. The drawbacks were: he did it in a surgi-center and he feels there is nothing wrong with implants and is adament about making his point. But he was actually recommended by OHSU (where I had the surgery) who stated that he trains some of the residents and is one of the top. I do know two women who used him and were very happy. He charges around $4950 all inclusive... He called me back a couple hours later and talked to me for at least a half hour I asked him all kinds of questions and the last question I asked him was why are you so much less expensive than everyone else? He said I feel bad that all these women paid all this money to get implants in and we all believed they were safe, now they are sick and they need them out, I charge a fair price but I'm not going to take advantage of people in a bad situation that is not why I'm a doctor. I thought wow that says a lot. I also loved the fact that he does not will not put implants in anymore. He quite doing it years ago when he realized it was making women sick. I found him to be the most compassionate one of all. I am going to be using him. I hope since a lot of people are trying to find a doctor by posting my finding this helps. I also want to say the price made no difference in my decision I was looking for the person I felt most qualified.
