I though that some of you might like to hear about something did this

weekend. I helped me to see that we are indeed heading in the right directions

with her.

We were driving up to my mom's which is about a 30 minute trip. and

were having a discussion in the back as only a 7 and 4 year old can. As

always, I listen in to hear if they are using good language skills (they both

have some problems). I then hear say " Oh.....what is that word " I'm

shocked that she is actually trying to think of the proper word for something.

Her usual thing to do is to just describe it. Then she says " Oh yea, reptile,

that's what an alligator is " . I'm shocked! So I ask her about it. During our

discussion she answers my question of what other animals are reptiles. She came

up with most of them on her own. Then I named some other animals and asked her

if they too were reptiles. She was able to tell me which ones were and were

not. By this time I'm acutally floored. I don't remember ever talking about

reptiles. Yes, we have spoken about alligators and lizards and what not, but

not that they were reptiles. So I

asked her where she learned about reptiles. In her best " I can't believe you

don't know it " voice she tells me it was from the reptile show at the library.

That show took place in the beginning of June. I didn't think she got anything

from it. We arrived close to the start time, so she wasn't sitting up front.

During the entire show she kept moving around and switching places with her

brother. And yet, without her FM system in a aucostically challanging basement

she heard and learned about reptiles.

It's when things like this happen I know that everything will be ok in the

long run.

Debbie,

I am sitting here grinning from ear-to-ear.

What a great feeling ... for a few moments everything seems right with the

world. And then they start fighting in the back seat and I'm willing to trade

them in on new kids, LOL.

Congrats, Jill

Oh, wow! That's great! Isn't it great when our kids can surprise us like
