Guest guest
Welcome, Jo!! Pardon my ignorance, but what is RA? (Sorry if it's something really simple, my brain has apparently flown south for winter, hehe) Oooh, 13 furry kids, those are my type of kids! I'd love to hear more (or see pictures!!) I have one furry, hilarious love-child, haha, and he just makes my world. He's all-black, (but not all-there!) and of course I think he's the sweetest, most gorgeous kitty ever. Do you have anything specific in mind for weight loss? I'm following Weight Watchers, as are a couple others here, but we definitely aren't going to push you towards any certain plan, we just try to encourage healthy, long-term methods as opposed to un- healthy, " quick fixes. " (and let me tell you, that cabbage soup diet is less exciting with each bite of that soup, haha!) I look forward to getting to know you and those furrens of yours better. =+) Catalina > Hello all. Guest guest
Welcome, Niki! It's nice to meet you here. I like to adapt my food program to my preferences, food cravings, and needs, which makes it easier to stay on it long-term. Have you been able to find any comfort foods which fit in on your food plan? Working at home and caring for a little toddler make it a little harder, since you're never too far from the kitchen. It sounds like you're growing more aware of times when you really feel hungry, which is a huge step in the right direction. Way to go! Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Niki. My name is Eva and I'm your neighbor in South Carolina. My husband is also in the military (Air Force). I have two little girls (3 yrs. and 15 months). I've been with the group about a month now (when I started my " lifestyle change " )and I think you'll find a lot of great support and advice here. Are you on any formal program (Weight Watchers, Atkins, etc.)? Anyway, good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing. -Eva > Hello Everyone, Im Niki WAHM to my 2 yr old son. Guest guest
My hubby is hitting the 15-year mark next year, so we're on the downhill slide to retirement! He joined when he was 18, so he'll only be 38 when he " retires " . The bonus is that he made Master Sergeant this last go-round, so his retirement pay will be higher. Take care, Eva > Hi Eva! Guest guest
Hello Em! Welcome to Silly Yaks! I hope you find as much encouragement and information through the posts and this site as I have. It is a good site and a great group of folks that post here. I am in Ontario, but you'll find folks signing in from all around the world. Going gluten free has been very, very helpful to me, as well as taking a few herbal supplements to speed the healing of and to nourish my malnourished system. I have also recently started on the Hallelujah Diet with a few personal modifications because of my food intolerances. Here is a link to further info. on that one. http://www.hacres.ca/ in Canada http://www.hacres.com/home/home.asp in the USA My Doctor's tests for me came back negative -- so all should have been well, but I knew they weren't. In time, after developing cancer in my colon and healing from that through the aid of an herbalist, I have kept my diet gluten free on purpose, even though my primary care doctor did not diagnose me as celiac. Especially since my Mother was diagnosed as having celiac, and all the evidence of my food intake points to celiac, I am staying gluten free. I am hoping that the Hallelujah Diet will help my body to heal beyond celiac and my food intolerances. All the best to you and your family. We live in British Columbia. He is a long haul trucker. He has Type 2 diabetes and a protein spill from his kidneys. He has been feeling unwell after eating for months. 3 or so weeks ago he got really sick and ended up home 2 weeks ago unable to work due to severe abdominal pains, extreme bloating and the runs. The first week he was home the doctor ran every test for his kidneys, bacteria and parasite infections. A few more I am sure. Everything came back normal. We had a few days of simple meals with little or no gluten. He started feeling better. I made a gluten feast meal and he got super sick. My son has Type 1 diabetes and suffered severe stomach aches 3 years back. We ended up calling it stress. He was tested for celiac along with numerous other things. Celiac came back negative but I did a ton of reading on it back then. The night of our gluten feast I started thinking. For all the foods Lorne has been complaining about gluten is a component. For example who gets sick off 's Vegetable soup? As much as I am kicking myself now I thought he was nuts! By the next morning, Thursday, I got him another doctors appointment and asked the doctor to pacify me by running the blood work for celiac. We are still waiting on the tests. Lorne went gluten free til last Sunday night. Lets see what happens if I feed you this.....he got sick. He has been gluten free since then. He is starting to feel so much better. The doctor is thinking we are right. For the reading he did, Lor's symptoms, and the food tests it all makes sense. As of a couple nights ago Lorne is sleeping much better, feeling much better and even looking much better. We are still waiting on the blood work but we are pretty much convinced....... I am hoping to learn much from this list. Em

Guest guest
Hi ! I'm in Wi too and I know you are close to me by your area code. Are you north of Milwaukee or south? I'm in Mil. Co. just north of the city in the North Shore area. My 4 yr old has gotten a positive blood test from her dr. in Mequon and we go on Aug. 21 to Childrens Hospital. We see Dr. Tipnis., a GI specialist. I'm in a holding pattern until she's seen by him. They told me not to change her diet so we wait. I've had many of the symptoms of Celiac but my blood test came back neg. I also have a 2 yr old who complains of stomachaches when she eats but not knowing if it's from listening to her sister say it or if she really does. I will have her tested next. Did Molly have her testing done at Childrens too?? KATIE B.Happy Summer
Guest guest
Dr. Tipnis also works out of Kenosha too but I'm sure if you have Aruora healthcare ins. it wouldn't be covered but incase I see him Monday and he rocks I'll give you this link.. Medical College of Wisconsin Patient Care Thank you , No we don't have that doctor, we have another that seems to know nothing about the disease. Her name is Dr. Aman Singh--she couldn't even tell me what foods to avoid except wheat. Our family doc who originally suspected celiac is the one who steered us in the right direction, she is a gem in my book. Thanks for the welcoming! She could also have an intolerance or late-phase (IgG) food allergy. You know what, though? If she feels best when she's gluten-free, she should stay GF. If she still has problems, perhaps she's reacting to something else. Dairy and soy could both be culprits. ygg
Guest guest
St. Lukes is an excellent hospital too. My grandpa was flight for lifed there after his heart attack and a close friend was just moved from Freodert to St. Lukes because their cancer care is better. But, as far as child care and GI specialist, I don't know. I'll let you know after next week when we go. If you've been reading past posts I guess theres a great gluten free grocery store downtown Milwaukee, I plan on checking it out after next week's appt. Great to have a neighbor here. Hi , We live near the Kenosha area--so south of Milwaukee. Molly had her tests at Aurora Kenosha and the gene testing was sent to St. Luke's. I am thinking that children's might have been a better choice, but oh well. KATIE B.Happy Summer
