Guest guest
Thanks, Bill. We have been monitoring Shan's blood sugars and it does not look like her blood sugars are bottoming out at night. During the day we saw them slowly decrease from about 85 to 75 and then her 10:00pm blood sugar increased to the 80's and seemed to stay that way during the night. Yesterday and today her blood sugars are staying in the 80's. Her urine ketones are 80-160 at night. Last night I dropped 50 calories from her bed time snack to see if it would lower the blood sugars during the night. They stayed in the 80's (I'll admit that I'm not checking all night but around 10:30pm and 7AM). I'm wondering if we are giving her too many calories from 6pm to bed time. About 1 hour after eating she is fairly tired. I'm wondering if her metabolism is slowing down in response to being very tired (we give melatonin) and preparing for bed time which is around 7:30. We have been giving her a 150 calorie snack at bed time. Rhonda Re: blood glucose article/ Rhonda My son has type 1 diabetes and I believe that it is normal for blood sugar levels to drop during the night for most people, even those without diabetes. I saw some tests that were done at the children's diabetes clinic with staff going home with newer technology blood sugar monitors. Many had very low blood sugar levels at night, which was surprising. Bill
Guest guest
Rhonda, You might be right. I'm not sure. Some people talk about giving a higher ratio snack at bedtime.
