Guest guest
I could use some help. has had a virus for the past week. It presented with a high fever for six days. The fever has gone two days ago. She awoke this eve at 2 am with crying with a very croupy cough. I gave her ventolin with pulmocort. Any ideas to help her till morning when I can get her to a doctor. It looks like she'll probably go back on antibiotics. Generally she's been doing real well. Me on the other hand have a hard time dealing with her discomfort. IT'S SO HARD! Any suggestions from this wise group? Thanks mom to (7 wcf) and Noah (10 w/o cf)

Guest guest
, I am sorry is ill. If it is a true croup then ventolin/pulmocort will not work and, I've been told, can even make it worse (croup is a throat inflamation not a lung thing). There is another inhaled med for croup, but you might try cold air first. We usually run Eleanora outside when this happens in the winter. If that doesn't work we take her to the hospital for a treatment 'cuz we don't have the croup med. at home. Hope she's better soon! Guest guest
We use a cough syrup with Guaifenesin in it. Robitussin makes some but it also sold in many generic forms as Tussin. It isn't a cough supressant, just an expectorant. It will help loosen that stuff up and make it easier to cough out. Guest guest
Do you know the name of the croup med? I'm off to the Dr. this morning, see if she knows. I realize that croup is in the throat and generally viral. However, it has always been the case that 's croupy cough leads to her chest. Wondering why the ventolin and pulmocort would make things worse? A few years ago 's sputum cultured for Staph. Perhaps thats why she gets the throat inflamation leading to chest involvement. Any ideas? Thanks for getting back to me. on 1/8/02 9:25 AM, Waldock Consulting at twaldock@... wrote: > , > I am sorry is ill. Guest guest
We use the plain, generic Robitussin or Tussin (just the guaifenesin, boy is that a pain to type!) every time has a sniffle, it seems to loosen up the mucus in the nose too. I take it too whenever I have a cold. It's good stuff. *&~*&~*&~*&~*&~*&~*&~*&~*&~*&~&*~*&~*&~&*~*&~*&~&* mama to , 16 months old w CF and 3 years wo CF " One fish said to another -- do you believe in this ocean they talk about? Guest guest
Sorry, I don't . I have 6 kids and no brain cells left! It is one of those things they pop so quickly into the neb at the ER that unless I write it down, I won't remember. Since these attacks are always at night I haven't had the wear-with-all!!! I think it starts with a B but it may have a different name where you are, I'm in Canada. I'll try to look it up though. Good luck, Jane Goldman wrote: > Do you know the name of the croup med? Guest guest
Hi Jane, Six kids, I don't know how you do it! I have two kids and fewer brain cells, but more gray hairs! Just came back from the doctor. She figures has Strep. So its back on Cephalaxin. What really pisses me off, is the doctor (walk in clinic) who saw her six days ago didn't do a throat swab. My lesson, as a parent insist they do a throat swab, just to rule it out. These lessons come hard. Hopefully things are now on the mend. By the way, I too live in Canada. Toronto to be specific. Where are you? Have a good day, on 1/8/02 10:28 AM, Waldock Consulting at twaldock@... wrote: > Sorry, I don't . I have 6 kids and no brain cells left! Guest guest
Hey !!!!!!, I'm in Newmarket! There is a really nasty strain of Strep going around here. I had 3 kids down with it over Christmas...all on different antibiotics because of allergies etc. Cephalexin sort of worked for Eleanora but she is still running a low grade fever. Doctor says her chest is clear so we haven't gone back on an antibiotic...I'm giving it another couple of days and if it continues I'll get yet another swab.
