So therefore you are still 1 hour behind EST and 2 hours ahead of PST and 1 hour ahead of MST. Example: CST 11:01 am EST 12:01 pm MST 10:01am PST 9:01 am Did I just muddy the water or clear it up? Someone else probably gave a better answer, but... The four time zones in the continental US are a differential with UTC (formerly known as GMT). The four zones are eastern, central, mountain and pacific. Standard times are- Eastern (EST) = UTC - 5 hours Central (CST) = UTC - 6 hours Mountain (MST) = UTC -7 hours Pacific (PST) = UTC -8 hours In the summer we go (all except part of Indiana) to Daylight Savings Time, which is an hour earlier: Eastern (EDT) = UTC -6 hours Central (CDT) = UTC -7 hours Mountain (MDT) = UTC -8 hours Pacific (PDT) = UTC -9 hours So... EDT = CST CDT = MST MDT = PST Or if you were to live in Michigan in the Spring / Summer, and move to Illinois in the Autumn / Winter, then back to Michigan in the Spring, you wouldn't have to change your clock, it would be right all year. In one aspect this is nice, since we don't have to mess with the clocks.
