Guest guest
's only had his TransEar for six days, and we managed to break part of it on Day Four. There's a little plastic piece that protects the wires that lead from the BTE unit to the earmold. Somehow, someway, we managed to get said little plastic piece to snap off at the top of the connection to the BTE piece. I've managed to use scotch tape to hold it together, but we can't turn the volume to its normal level without getting all kinds of feedback. ARGH! At least he's still wearing it, albeit it at a lower volume than normal, so that he's getting used to the feel of it in his ear. I feel so bad - it was *my* fault that it snapped (I was putting it down on the counter to change the battery, and the Critter Clip pulled it down onto the hard counter faster than I expected). I think the plastic may have been weakened a bit - it looked a bit funny Friday morning, and the aid didn't seem to be responding as strongly as usual (I think that the connection that broke might help with amplification of the signal), but I didn't think anything of it until this happened Friday night. (And, of course, it happened 30 minutes after the audiologist's office closed for the weekend.) So now I'll be calling our audi first thing in the morning begging for us to get this fixed ASAP since we have 's in-service scheduled for school at the end of the week. UGH! At least we have the Dry & Store to make sure that the wires stay nice and dry. Singing the praises of Scotch tape (it's almost as good as Duct Tape!). Guest guest
The ear hook part? If it is that easy to break, ask for some extras!! Also, we use ear gear. Critter clips kept snapping off the ear hooks for some reason?! Tawnya I think we set a new record... 's only had his TransEar for six days, and we managed to break part of it on Day Four. Guest guest
I'm not sure if that's what it's called - it could be. I know that the Critter Clipper was pulling on it quite a bit, and I think that's how it got weakened. (I've already got a red/orange Ear Gear ordered for the -Monkey - I'm hoping it helps this issue!) The bad thing is that I just tried putting his ear mold in my ear when he took it off for the night, and now it's not picking up any speech at all - just static. Urgh. Guest guest
My husband has discovered " Gorilla Tape " - its similar to duct tape but much stronger. It is holding together one of our pipes from the pool right now!

Don't you hate when stuff like this happens??? * Yes! :-) And to think why one of my teammates at work couldn't figure out why I was in a rather grumpy mood today. :-) Luckily, Rick Gilbert at Ear Technology Corp has been wonderful to work with, and is bending over backwards to get back in the proverbial saddle ASAP. I dropped the aid off at our otologist's office this morning and called Rick to give him a head's up on what happened. Apparently they're working on a new version of this piece that's meant to be more sturdy than the one that just snapped, and he's trying to get that version out the door for to have on Thursday. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Kris <-- who now has to deal with the ticked off school district audiologist who's upset because our principal scheduled 's in-service for the same time that he's running the district-wide in-service for teachers who will have FM systems in their classrooms. ARGH!

LOL, funny, I refer to my husband as the gorilla, or orangutan, since he has a red beard. I'll have to look for this tape, I may stick a roll of it into his Christmas stocking, LOL Jill
