Diane/Diet - unhealthy?

Hi everyone

Just thought I would add a bit to this little discussion. I don't like to be

negative, but

recently my husband learned a bit about SUDEP as he works at a neuro hospital on

the medical engineering side. When we were contemplating the diet I decided that

even if the diet has long term consequences for the heart, or whatever, I would

sooner try to get him seizure free now and improve his quality of life while he

still has

life! I know that the diet doesn't work for every child but if it does work then

the

short-term benefits for the child and the family are so great I am sure it's

worth a try.

In practice I think these keto kids are so much under the medical spotlight from

their

vomit to their cardiac function to their blood gases to their poop etc etc that

they

probably have a better chance of staying healthy than we do. Anything bad would

be

likely to be picked up pretty quick. I would go for it, and I say that without

any

hesitation. For five years Ben gradually deteriorated from being a bright and

lively

four year old to practically a zombie at times. They were starting to ask

questions

about whether he would cope in mainstream school for much longer and I was

seriously starting to crack up. The diet has been the most wonderful thing for

us -

hopefully it can be for you guys too. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Take care,

Rose Toms
