Guest guest
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas to help my son , he complains that his tummy and but hurt all the time, when we took him to the cf clinic they told me to increase his creon to one more, so he would take 4 with each meal instead of 3 and that would help, well it did not, his stools were fine even before the increase, and his tummy and his but still hurt, they talked about trying zantac next month, will this help?I am worried, even before he eats like when he first wakes up in the morning, he cries that his tummy hurts and his but, I asked him if it was because he was hungry, but when I give him breakfast he won;t eat, any ideas?please I am worried. Thanks mommy of 3.7 yrs old w/cf and 7months old
Guest guest
My son had continued bloating and gas and tummyaches even after stabilizing his enzyme dosage. His pediatrician recommended a stool test for bacteria and parasites, and that came up that he had a severe Klebsiella overgrowth in the gut as well as no Lactobacilli. After treating the infection with oral antibiotics and the lack of good bacteria with an acidophilus supplement, his bloating and gas are much decreased and he seems much happier overall. The test was easy to do but the CF clinic didn't offer it, my pediatrician did. mama to 1 yo w/CF and 3 yo woCF > From: onespleasure@... > Reply-To: cfparents > Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2001 20:22:41 EST > To: cfparents > Subject: I am worried > > Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas to help my son , he > complains that his tummy and but hurt all the time, when we took him to the > cf clinic they told me to increase his creon to one more, so he would take 4 > with each meal instead of 3 and that would help, well it did not, his stools > were fine even before the increase, and his tummy and his but still hurt, > they talked about trying zantac next month, will this help?I am worried, even > before he eats like when he first wakes up in the morning, he cries that his > tummy hurts and his but, I asked him if it was because he was hungry, but > when I give him breakfast he won;t eat, any ideas?please I am worried. Guest guest
ASK the clinic about trying PANCRECARB.....No need for Zantac then. It has bicarb in it . They do know it , many have found it has helped a great deal. I hope it will him too. Guest guest
Just some random thoughts here..... if they think it might be GERD, then zantac, prilosec, prevacid are the things you can try. Also, pepcid is sometimes used, and that is OTC (you can buy the 10 mg tabs otc,and if he swallows his enzymes, he should be able to swallow, also, pepcid is also available in chewable) My neice takes pepcid, but my kids all three take prilosec. Another thought...be sure you rule out impaction. With CF kids, some times they still poop (it can run around a big lump of stool, basically making it look like they are pooping) Once we thought was malabsorbing really bad (leaking grease into his underwear as he passed gas) and it turned out he was impacted. Miralax fixed it. We actually have to use miralax regularily on JOseph. HOpe this helps.
