Guest guest
Bill, Thanks for suggestion about reflux, but what is it? And when you say treat it by other means, what are the " other means " ? Alice is eating and drinking again. She still has some temperature. She sweats a lot during her sleep--there are sweat on her nose, her hair is wet, and T-shirt is wet, which is unusual. She did a blood test last Friday, her dr told us it was usual. Now I am guessing maybe it is a bacteria infection... We don't know if the fever changed her metabolic rate or other, her Dilantin level dropped from 16 last month to 7, which might be the reason why the seizures are going on like crazy. We did increase her calorie by 25cal, and added Carnitine since her level was " very low " . Any thoughts? --- Bill Barber torontobarber@...> wrote: > With a 4:1 ratio, red throat and refusing food and > water, it sounds like > it could be reflux, very common on the diet. Guest guest
For someone on a normal diet, reflux occurs if too much food and drink are ingested and then the person lies down. Some of that food and drink plus stomach acid comes back up the throat. It burns and is very uncomfortable. For someone on the ketogenic diet, the high amount of fat, even though the quantities are small can have the same result of coming back up with stomach acid. By other means, I mean having more, smaller meals, using milk of magnesia, upping water intake, giving soda water at the end of the meal, raising the head of the bed 4 to 6 inches, keeping the child upright for a while after meals, etc. If it is very bad and includes vomiting, you might have to reduce the ratio for some time. Hopefully after the body adjusts to the the high fat content, the reflux will gradually disappear. I mean other than using medications to counter reflux. My thoughts are that there are more questions than answers on the diet. You try something and see if it makes things better or worse. You increased calories and added Carnitine. One or the other or both made things worse. You are using medications. They can interfere with the diet. They could be making things worse. Sorry I can't help you more.
