There service has been bad. They cancelled a next day emergency order for

critical parts after they were given a credit card number....said it had to do

with her being on medicaid.

also couldn't take order cause they were in meetings.... Then we make a

emergency trip to Univ Hospital to pick up coil and were told by hospital thay

are having trouble getting items......maybe Advanced Bionics is the way to

go....remember once you get the implant....they got you by the balls.

Anyone know of alternate part suppliers for a sprint proccesor?

The Audiologist was the one saying they were having trouble with cochlear. I

am the grandfather and thought, well, Ill just buy some spart parts.....They

sent me too medicaid claims...told them no...just wanted to buy parts...They

would not do it. It breaks your heart to see a 5 year old signing and saying

he wants his CI. He is hard on cords, backbacks and loses coils and magnets.

Its just frustrating....why when you are willing to pay do they make it so

hard? Is there some government regulations?

Wow - I'm so sorry! We've had great luck with their service - we got

two new coils (two separate orders) the next day via Fedex delivered to

our home.

I do know their offices have been moving - maybe that's part of it? I'm

so sorry you've had this experience. I don't know of an alternative

vendor - I'm guessing they're sole source...

I've heard of so many problems with the Advanced Bionics product and the

recalls which is scarier still...

Could you talk with your implant audiologist about what's going on?

Funny you mention that cause this morning he mentione that it seemed loud.

But the worst thing that could happen did...got off his bus...CI in bookbag.

Note from school that magnet must of fell of of Coil. I gues I just don't

understand why I can't just order parts. Im gonna call again tommorow.

I appreciate the replies and will take the advice. I want to always have a

backup on hand. I guess I need to be more persistent. After todays

incident...both my wife (grandma) and Daughter (MOM) were crying. He is just not

the

same kid without the CI. It is unbelivable how dependent he is on it.

I have had really good service with Cochlear, also. Could they have

canceled the credit card order because there was a pending order via

Medicaid and did not want you to be effectively charged twice.

Hayley's earhook was not latching onto the processor the right way

so we had a new one - a new PROCESSOR, that is - replaced within a

week.

Why dont' you call back and talk to ? He is always helpful.

Also if you call and talk to a lady named Lynn directly I am sure

she will set things straight.

We are lucky also because our school, and now our implant center,

and actually UCLA kept a few extras on board (can you tell I work

for the Navy) so we never had too many problems with missing or

failed parts.

In fact, , he helped me trace a missing order - turns out that

there are two girls with implants with the same name and one of them

is mine.

Again, I'd call and talk to the customer service. Explain who you

are and WHY you want to buy the spare parts. Or order off the

internet. I think the problem is that the name is connected to the

serial number on the CI which is connected to the Medicaid.

I am just guessing and assuming here, because I don't use the

medicaid. You can also say that the longer your grandson does not

use the CI because you can't obtain the parts, the more upset he is

getting - and I know for a fact that when a kid does not use his CI

for a while sometimes you have to get a REMAP to soften the sound.

Ask them if that's what they want.

Were you calling Cochlear directly? or just the Audiologist's office?

Cochlear has always been very great about getting me what I need and

speedily. My daughter's coil went out - it was just a back up and they

overnighted it to me. Knowing full well it was the spare. I didn't get a

bill for shipping either.

If you have a pending Medicaid bill as someone already said you could tell

them you want to order duplicate parts and they should be very happy to

charge up your credit card.

Good luck to you.

I wondered too if you couldn't contact a Cochlear rep (that would

probably be done through your audiologist) and explain what's going on

to him/her?

Also - sorry I'm so fragmented - I'm sure it's the heat! You might

think about joining the listserve that Cochlear hosts. You can sign up

by going to www.cochlear.com and clicking on community connections and

then Nucleus forum. They have several adult nucleus-recipient

volunteers who I am sure can help.

That's SO understandable! We have an extra coil, extra battery case,

etc. for the same reason. It really does make me think about bilateral

implantation down the line as both my boys LOVE their implants now and

don't get the benefit they used to from their hearing aids.

Keep us posted? I'm thinking about you!

Wow I have never had trouble getting parts...and my Audi always makes sure I

have 3-4 extra parts for everything?

What is it your needing...I wouldn't mind mailing you an extra...

Until you get it straightened out then you could send me back what I sent.

Let me know if your still in need of help..
