Guest guest
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to everyone's words of encouragement and advice over the last few months as we've traveled down the bumpy path it took to get us here. 's fitting went so well that we were in and out of the office in only 40 minutes today - whoo hoo! It's kind of hard to do a hearing evaluation with him wearing the unit, since it's all based off bone conduction. We were able to do some informal testing, though - like when his audi squatted down behind him on his bad side and whispered: " Do you like ice cream? " I couldn't believe it - nodded Yes! And then he was able to repeat what she said! Now we're finding out that he's hearing more than he (and we) is used to - like when he interjected himself into a conversation we were having in low tones over 12 feet away from him. I was even able to talk to him in the car without having to talk at a loud volume - and I've done it for so long that I didn't realize that it was how I normally carried on a conversation with him. The mold is a bit different than what I've seen discussed here on the list. Since his mold contains an oscillator, it's completely enclosed and rather hard in texture. The mold fits pretty well (which is great, considering he has tiny ears), and the BTE portion is just incredibly small - we were expecting something twice this size! The biggest issue we've got is that 's ears are so small that it's hard to get the BTE portion to rest where our audi would really like it to go - but we'll be getting Ear Gear to hopefully help to keep it in position. Testing it in the morning is going to be different too - you have to talk to the BTE portion and make sure that the ear mold vibrates - then it's okay to put in. I've put pictures up on the photos section of the group - three of and his TransEar, and one of and his brother (who would feel incredibly left out if I didn't include one of him!). They're posted under " 's Photos " , and can also be found by following this link: http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/Listen-Up/photos/browse/4604. I hope you're all having a good night! Hugs to all, Kris Mom to (8, Profound/Complete SNL, Left Ear) and Ethan (6, hearing)
