Guest guest
Melonie - Please include me in the list of celiacs interested in the mentoring program. I think this would be a great way to help our fellow celiacs, and a newly diagnosed celiac needs help! Thanks for everything you do her! Guest guest
When my peanut, egg and milk allergic son entered preschool, the school had a strict policy against bringing food from home. They were also a peanut-free facility. BUT, that did not elimate all the food that would make my son sick. I found it was just easier (as did the staff) to send in the morning snack, and his lunch with him each day. He knew he was to only eat his own food, and not share. This greatly relived my anxiety about letting him go to school (read: very over-protective mom here). There were a few problems (a substitute teacher once put a slice of cheese on his plate, and before the other teacher could grab it- he snatched it up and ate it! He adores cheese!!! Luckily, it really just means a tummy ache for him, nothing too severe-well, ya know, except for a little pain and all!). See if you can work something out with the staff at the school. I have found that teachers are very easy to work with because they also want your child to be healthy and feel good at school. Also, huge cheer for our elementary school!!! This year, they put my son in a class with two other students who have peanut allergies, so that room will be completely peanut-free!!!! Yeah!!!! Sonja Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Check it out.
