Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! I wouldn't worry too much about the low ketones at this point, since Madison's seizures have improved and may well continue to improve. Give her more time. Perhaps she doesn't need a high ketone level for the diet to work. In time, you might increase the ratio for better control. If she is still on meds, they might be interfering with siezure control. Or, if you are weaning meds, that could be the problem. Just go slowly and be patient. You have good reason to be optomistic! Guest guest
Hi , welcome to the group. You should post what ratio/calories Madison is on. It could be that you need to increase the ratio/calories or reduce. Fine tuning takes time. Is she very active? That is great news that she is having seizure free days. I'm afraid I don't have an answer, but I'm sure one of the other parents might have an idea. Guest guest
Hi Madison is active not as much as she used to be but she crawls around everywhere. She is on a 4:1 ratio. And I beleive she gets 800 calories a day. She is still on her meds Phenobarbital, and Topamax. I would love if anyone could give me some recipes that she could eat. The only fat I can get her to take is the cream she hates the butter and oils. Thanks, Madisons Mom > > Hi I am a single mother with two kids I have a 4 1/2 year old boy > > Josh and I have a 14 1/2 month old daughter Madison Rose. She > > started the diet August 3, 2004. Guest guest
Welcome , How wonderful to see improvements from the beginning. My suggestion is to watch and see how Madison does. Don't change anything to try and get higher ketones. If she continues to improve with her ketones where they are then stay where you are at. All kids are different. Some need the high ketones to get seizure improvement or control while others need the lower ketones to have improved seizure control. The higher the ketones the higher the chance a child may not feel as well in the stomach. Rhonda (mom to Shan, age 9, keto/atkins kid over 2.5 years) Intro to Madison Hi I am a single mother with two kids I have a 4 1/2 year old boy Josh and I have a 14 1/2 month old daughter Madison Rose. She started the diet August 3, 2004. SO far things are going ok. But her ketone levels are low, but she did go three days seizure free had 3 seizures then went 6 days seizure free and only had a small one today(one of the shortest ever I think). She has had seizures since birth. No known cause, or really a diagnoisis. But I can't figure out why her ketone level is so low and her seizures are fewer and farther apart. She seems to tolerate her meals. So any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.
