Campus S FM and I think we'll be able to plug the thing into the transmitter

and

then into

,

Don't you just love being able to throw away anything you want? I can't

believe I'm saying this, but I LOVE when I can clean like that. It goes so much

faster and no one ever misses what I've tossed! (this includes the hubby, LOL)

I've been doing it this spring --we've been in this house for 20+years and

we have a lifetime of junk that was begging to be gotten rid of. While the

kids were at school, I attacked and cleared out things. The

basement/porch/attic have been my targets. Bedrooms have to wait for them to be

away (this week!

yeah!!!).

Ian has a Phonak Microlink FM system, but I don't know the model number. It

was bought and it maintained by our school district. This past year his

microphone was stolen out of his gym locker, so the school purchased a new one.

It

has more bells and whistles that the old one (which had none)

At the time he got the FM, I was battling just to get it used in the

classroom. Ian was/is so oral that arguing for home use was going to be a very

difficult fight and so I picked my battle. Plus, after using it in the classroom

and knowing how it all worked, when asked if he felt he needed one at home, he

said no. This past spring he asked about getting one for home use. As his

hearing deteriorates, he points out what he needs -- so much easier than dealing

with a small child! So, after buying the new aids, our next addition will

probably be a home FM system.

Since we don't have home use of the school's system, I don't have much hands

on experience with it. And my " hands-on " experience is really more " eyes on "

since he handles all these things fro himself now. He has brought it home

for using at concerts and other evening school events. We usually have it for

holidays (so that it will be fully charged for school) but use it for watching

movies and stuff like that. In the summer (now) it goes in for it's annual

check-up and is locked up in the school's safe until the week before classes

start.

I usually ask him to read any info I write in one of these emails to make

sure I've got it correct. At the moment, he's at scout camp, so I can't ask

about the details.

I know that there is a cord/jack that goes between the mike and the device

(TV/stereo/etc) since I've watched him hook it up, but I am not sure exactly

where it plugs into the mike. I believe there are a couple cords with different

size plugs on one end to fit into the different device output plugs. But

that is just based on my memory of what's in the carrying case when it comes

home. He does all the hooking up himself now.

One benefit/drawback of having a child who's this age is that I rarely ever

touch his equipment. The ear dryer arrived this past Friday. I signed the UPS

form and he took the box right out of my hands. I have not seen it since,

except in the rear view mirror as he was using it on our drive home from the

pool. (He loves it -- " It tickles " )

I don't clean his molds, don't change his batteries -- I guess the most I do

now is drip the ear drops into his ears when we do a wax removal session.

Seems I've become dispensable, (grin).

However, to address this very issue, Ian's new FM microphone has a cord/jack

that can be inserted into any output plug on one end and into the microphone

with the other, then the mike can transmit the output right to the FM

receiver boots, like it does with a person's voice.

she kept complaining on the way up that sitting way in the back she couldn't

read the captions well enough and I think she'll get better sound through her fm

than through the headset (which I think she uses without her aid!). We'll see -

Jill, what website did you order the ear dryer from?? We need one. Does it

run on battery or plug in the wall. With daily swimming, Maggie has gotten her

normally hard orange ear wax to turn into white cottage cheesy looking stuff

that has irritated her ear canal. She can't wear the SeboTek's we are

supposed to be trialing. Thanks,

,

Amazon ... it was over $25 so it qualified for free shipping. (grin)

I compared the different websites and it was $99 at all of them. I found

another brand for $89, but the most popular one was Sahara, so I splurged for

the extra $10 and got the more recognizable. popular brand name.

It said it would take 5-10 days to get here and it arrived in 2. I ordered

it on Wednesday and it was here on Friday. I think it was shipped UPS, but it

might have been USPS -- the post office. I forget. I've been getting a bunch

of things in the past week, work and other stuff, so I can't remember which

came from which shipper. Either way I had to sign for it.

As for the cheesy ear wax, that makes it easier to get out ... I'd use an

ear cleaner and dissolve that softened stuff before drying it all out again.

We've just gone through this with Ian and the swimmer's ear. The 3-times-a-day

medicated (antibiotic) ear drops softened up the wax and so we cleaned it out

while it was soft. Killed two birds with one stone.

The Sahara is $92.95 at www.justbekuz.com. They also sell a carrying case

for it for about $26.

Well ... for another year, maybe. here in NY kids get the learners permit

and then there's a 6 month wait for your license. But I still OWN the car, so

he'll need me as a source of wheels. LOL
