Guest guest
I have been " lurking " for months and have learned so much from this group. I have a daughter, Molly, 4 yrs. who has apraxia, hypotonia, sensory issues, mild developmental delay. She also suffered from myoclonic seizures when she was 7 mo. old, treated with Depakote for 3 1/2 years successfully (no breakthroughs). Was released from Depakote and her neurologist last August. Her speech was so delayed and, of course, our Early Intervention was reluctant to do anything until age 3. We began giving her PRO EFA's in November of 2005 and her speech really took off. She is now using spontaneous speech and putting sentences together. Her speech therapist thinks it is pretty remarkable but doesn't believe it is all due to the fish oils. I will agree up to a point as her progress was so slow and difficult up until that time. We added the PRO Epa in March and again, have seen another surge in speech development, pretend play, cognitive development as well as better control with her large motor skills. She used to have a very ataxic gait (I always blamed the Depakote). Currently Molly is taking 2 ProEFAs and 1 PRO Epa Twice daily as well as 600 mg of CarnAware. I think her dosage is working very well with her and although we've seen some aggresive behaviors since adding the EPA I feel it's been worth it since her speech has increased so much. So here's my question(s): A recent lipid panel was taken at my request. Her cholesterol is 253 and her LDL (which is the lousy) is 199. Yikes! We do have some family history (husband is high - but dropped 20% when I started him on fish oil) her diet is extremely good. Does anyone know if the omega 3's could be a factor? If anything I thought it would lower her cholesterol which was under 200 last summer. At this point I am wondering what to do. We are seeing a new developmental pediatrician later this month and I think I'll request that some serious metabolic work be done. Has anyone experienced this? Thanks for any and all help. Mom to Molly 4 years old (and 6 days away from her 5th birthday)
