Guest guest
, The acidophilus that you take is a " probiotic " . If you can find a capsule with more than one bacteria then I would get it. The one I give our daughter Shan contains acidophilus and bifidabacterium lactus. The SCD yoghurt is lactose free. Since my daughter, Shan, is lactose intolerant I made the SCD yoghurt and used cream instead of milk for fat. If does not bounce back by giving him acidophilus and making his bowels regular with the magnesium then you may want to consider putting him on the SCDiet which is great at healing the gut (works also for irritable bowel syndrome). It seems his diet is already close to being SCD. The only big change would be no more cream (aged cheese and butter are permitted) and making lactose free yoghurt (lactose free yoghurt cream for those on keto/atkins). We were able to do SCD with Shan along with the keto diet. Shan is both keto and atkins. She's very high protein but we still measure. Her ratio is 1:1. I am no expert on what to ask a GI doctor, but it would be really nice if the problem was resolved before the GI appointment. I think the keto and atkins diet can intensify the side effects of having problems in the gut. Meaning, when our children who are on a high fat diet get an intestinal bug I think the high fat/high acid makes the side effects of the bug worse....wipes out the bacteria even more and takes longer to heal. I really think that our keto experts need to realize this and find natural means of helping the gut quickly heal instead of sending our kids to a GI doctor who most likely will not understand the cause and will put our children through invasive tests trying to find the problem when the solution could be as simple as bacteria replenishment and/or adding digestive enzymes to help break down the food/fat more effectively. By the way, I forgot to tell you that digestive enzymes cut down on the gas tremendously for Shan and got rid of strong odours similar to what you are experiencing with . I gave Shan digestive enzymes when she was 6 for over a year. During her worse time when her stomach was distended and painful I gave her 2 capsules before each meal. She experienced relief the day we started them. If does not improve between now and his GI appointment then I think you will have a lot of questions for him/her by then. But, I'm optimistic that he will be doing well by the time of his appointment. People who do the SCDiet often get relief with the first couple weeks though for those with long term illnesses it usually takes a couple years before their gut is completely healed though their symptoms improved in the first weeks on the diet. These are brainstorming ideas. They come from the experience we have had with our daughter. The diet and unknown lactose intolerance wiped our daughter's digestive system out to the point she was extremely fatigued the entire first year on the diet. When we replenished her gut with bacteria and took the lactose out of her diet her energy came back fast. She also had a lot of pain and gas the first month of the diet. The digestive enzymes helped tremendously. Rhonda. Rhonda, Thanks so much. This list has been a god send for many years for us and I am so greatful for your thought out advice. To answer a few questions, is 6. He has never been diagnosed with an absorption problem before. Dr Chez thinks that the high dose of Miralax caused his stomach to stop absorbing his fats and meds due to the excess diarhhea. We started with a major mass in his abdomen being stool and ended up with diarrhea. He even has a odor to him now like stool after he takes a bath. Prior to the problems in the hospital, we were giving him his meds (Felbatol 600mg) the Atkins diet, carn aware and a vitamin. Constipation has been an ongoing battle and we can't seem to get on top of it. We used suppositories every 3-4 days if no BM. I know-not good. I think that I am going to go out today and start Magnesium and Probiotics. Is there a preference between that and acidophulus. I took that because I have irritable bowel syndrome. It does help. I tell you, he is a much better child today just going back down on his meds. Dr Chez increased his felbatol. It makes him a crazy boy. He is happy and I think if we get his gut back on track, we are maybe going to get him back. What about Yoghurt? Is that the SCD stuff. I tell you, all of this makes me suspect some underlying intestinal issues that I really don't know where to start. Its so much to digest. Do you have any suggestions. We have appt with a ped GI doc in Oct. Any thoughts on that or what to ask to have tested? I hate to say this but I'm sick of docs because most of them arund here don't have aclue what they are doing. They tried to give a milk and molasses enema and also give him a sugar h20 IV when he was sick. We have to drive 4 hours to see a neurologist and he pretty much does everything for us. Again, Thanks for all of your help!
