Guest guest
Why did they rule out autism for your son? There is a syndrome close to autism that is called aspergers. It is basically a high functioning autism. My son went through two years of what the doctor thought was adhd, I knew it was more. He is on strattera but that has helped his compulsive and impulsive behaviors. He was truly dx, until shortly after his 6th bday. We always knew something wasn't right but it was me that got them looking into these things. I did a lot of research, joined groups for those syndromes to see what other parents had experienced. It was tough telling the doctor things and having the doctor say, 'oh, I don't think it's autism......'. But it was.......Same with my daughter's celiac and my whole history with medical problems and getting 'have you ever heard of hypochondraism???? I almost took that doctor down. Just once, I would love to hear a doctor say 'I just don't know', rather than 'it's all in your head'.....
