Guest guest
Hello, aël is a bit better, it's not worse and the t c seizures are really less intensive, just at night when he wants to sleep.. Until then blood ketones level was very very low about 1.5 mmol/l. Yersterday, he was so constipated that I tried to give him more MTC oil( the one from the chemist instead of coconut oil or linseeds oil), I gave him 7 g at noon with his meal ; he 's very pale and have rings under his eyes since we begun the keto diet. He vomitted by gush a lot, I suppose even his breakfast.... I've cheked his blood ket level and it was 4.9 mmol/l, it never had been so high! What do you give me as advices to keep high ketones but not vomitting...is better oil one than other? I use to give him just 3 g of MTC oil at every meal.... He's got trileptal at low dose ( 225mg at night) I give him carnitine too. Thank you both of you Carolyn, aël's mum --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Carolyn, If he's vomitting his meals his ketones are too high. MCT oil or any other oil will increase his ketones too. Any of these oils have to be calculated into meals at the correct ratio otherwise he can get too ketotic which will make him sick, too sleepy and refuse food. The cheeks can become red too and the breathing like panting. If any of these signs are there the ketones can be lowered by giving a bit (10ml or so) orange juice. You could try other things for constipation. Make sure he has at least half as much Magnesium as he as of Calcium. Drinking enough water is also important. The dr. can give you somethings for constipation that won't interfere with ketones. Hope I have been of some help instead of confusing you. Guest guest
Very bad constipation can cause vomiting. High ketones can as well. This can result in dehydration and throw the diet off. The paleness and rings under the eyes can also be a sign of dehydration. Make sure fluids are sufficient in this situation. Try to give milk of magnesia (original, unflavoured) for constipation (It also helps with reflux). If the constipation is bad you should use stronger methods if the milk of magnesia doesn't work. If that doesn't work go to the doctor or the hospital. It is a very serious situation. Unfortunately, it is also common on the keto diet! Guest guest
Carolyn, Vomiting usually means the keytones are way too high, he was probally way too ketotic. My daughter Stella got that way too, using the MCT oil is a fine balance. We gave her 8g per meal and it was too much. I've dropped it all together for a while, and focus on linseed or coconut oil instead. Why not give him somewhere in the middle, say 5g for a while to see if he can handle that. I do know if he is too ketotic then he may have more seizures, stella did. The other thing is to give him 1oz of orange juice to bring him out of the ketosis and see if he feels better, usually takes about 15mins to notice a change. The carnatine should be given daily, and most keto kids take that. Try colace it is a stool softener, that may work for his constipation. Stella is always very constipated, the MCT oil helped with that a little, but w/ the amount of food she eats(she's not eating at the moment though) I'm okay is she has 2 bowel movement s a week, just so long as they are not hurting her. You should be able to buy the colace over the counter w/o a prescription. I'm so happy for you though, that the seizures are getting better, that's great news. i often wonder how you are doing. amanda > > Hello, > > aël is a bit better, it's not worse and the t c seizures are > really less intensive, just at night when he wants to sleep.. > > Until then blood ketones level was very very low about 1.5 mmol/l. > Yersterday, he was so constipated that I tried to give him more MTC > oil( the one from the chemist instead of coconut oil or linseeds oil), > I gave him 7 g at noon with his meal ; he 's very pale and have rings > under his eyes since we begun the keto diet. > > He vomitted by gush a lot, I suppose even his breakfast.... > I've cheked his blood ket level and it was 4.9 mmol/l, it never had > been so high! > What do you give me as advices to keep high ketones but not > vomitting...is better oil one than other? > I use to give him just 3 g of MTC oil at every meal.... > He's got trileptal at low dose ( 225mg at night) > I give him carnitine too. > > Thank you both of you > > Carolyn, aël's mum > > > > > > > ----------------------------------------------------------------------- > --------- > > > >
