Guest guest
For starters I would not be worried about the high vit K levels. Its low vit K that is an issue for bleeding, and high dose vit E supplements can impact vit K. The problem with reference ranges for vitamins...is that the really may not mean anything for some of these vitamins...whereas others its a bigger deal. There really isn't any documented toxicity from vitamin K (just like vitamin E)...however high doses of vitamin A or D have adverse effects. Low carninitine: In a low tone kid...I would supplement with carnitine. A good dose is 25 mg/kg/day. Carnitine is safe. It will do nothing, or it will help. Did you get vit E levels? - > I had a celiac panel, carnitine, and vitamin levels for D and K done > (they said that he had to be fasting for A and E, which I did not > know. Guest guest
If I remember correctly, carnosine and carnotine are two totally different amino acids. They aren't related in any way, shape or form. Guest guest
Carnitine and carnosine are not related other than they are both amino acid supplements. Low carnitine is often needed when low tone is a problem. > > > Low carninitine: In a low tone kid...I would supplement with > > carnitine. A good dose is 25 mg/kg/day. Carnitine is safe. Guest guest
Thanks for the info about vitamin K. We were not able to get E and A b/c they told us he should have fasted for 8 hours prior, after they drew all the blood! I still have the prescription, so I will bring him back sometime after fasting to check the A and E. One more quick question...do you know a high quality brand of carnitine to supplement with if I am not able to get a prescription for it? I am hoping to do a short-term trial and then if I see results, I will convince my son's Dr. to give the prescription for it. Thanks for your help! > For starters I would not be worried about the high vit K levels. Its > low vit K that is an issue for bleeding, and high dose vit E > supplements can impact vit K. Guest guest
Thanks, . I really appreciate your help. Just to clarify, 25 mg/kg/day means 25 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day, correct? My son is roughly 34 pounds so that puts us right under 400 mg per day. I found a pharmaceutical grade supplement in powder form by life extension supplements...pricey but looks like a good product. When you say carnitine...you mean l-carnitine, correct? Sorry for all the questions. I also wanted to comment on the vitamin E and SID. I was so excited about our strides in communication, I almost overlooked the gains in his SID issues. It has been simply amazing. He has lost his quirks...(I am knocking on wood right now as I type). Today in OT...after only 2 months (we started OT at the same time that we started E), my son's OT said that he may be ready to be discharged b/c he is doing so well. OMG! He wants to retest him next week. It is so exciting. I am hoping that the carnitine will help us toward our goal of graduating from PT. > > > For starters I would not be worried about the high vit K levels. > > Its > > > low vit K that is an issue for bleeding, and high dose vit E > > > supplements can impact vit K. Guest guest
Guest guest
We are still just giving 400 I.U. of E per day and 2 EFA and 1 EPA. I have been thinking about increasing, but I have not done it yet. Is there an age where you feel it is okay to give a higher dose…my son is 27 months. When you talk about Vitamin K levels, do you mean that Vitamin E increases or decreases the levels? My son has high levels of K. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of claudia.morris Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2006 6:39 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Blood Test Results...please advise! > > > > For starters I would not be worried about the high vit K > levels. > > > Its > > > > low vit K that is an issue for bleeding, and high dose vit E > > > > supplements can impact vit K.
