Guest guest
Anyone knowing what I should be doing, please help me. was last at the neuro at the end of June and weighed just over 35 lbs. I knew she was gaining weight, so just took her today to weigh her and she is 39 1/2 lbs. Yikes! What a fast weight gain. And it shows, that is why I took her. She is on a 1200 calorie diet, was a 4:1 ratio that I lowered a couple of weeks ago to 3.5:1 after high ketones/acidity and massive seizuring. Ketones had always been high, morning, noon and night. Now they build during the day and are high before bedtime. Anyway, I think the ratio works. But it has no been without some glitches. But, looking at the weight gain I am amazed things did not go more poorly. Any ideas on calorie reduction? Can it be done all at once? I am thinking a good 200 calories less.... Does this make sense to anyone who knows? She was chubby when she started the diet, but now she is really chubby. Thanks. Can't believe I let it go and she gained that much, that fast! YIKES. Thanks for any help anyone can give. I need to do something immediately. .. mumma to , keto diet since May
Guest guest
I wouldn't drop more than 100 at a time. Do that, wait two weeks, then reweigh. You don't want to overshoot the mark and have her drop too much weight frumpymumma wrote: > Anyone knowing what I should be doing, please help me. > > was last at the neuro at the end of June and weighed just over > 35 lbs. Guest guest
, Don't change too many things at once and too drastically. I know we used to do that to try and fix things and if things went wrong we didn't know what change caused it. My son seemed to be sensitive to the slightest change usually in the wrong way and we had to take thing slowly. Also we had to keep a record of any change and what happened after. I think a lowering of 200 cals at once maybe too much. We did about 50 cals at a time but Rohan was much older and and more than double 's wt. Since things are working well for at the moment be cautious of any big change. Guest guest
Normally 100 calories is a fairly standard change in calories if there is an indication that a change is needed. With your very large weight gain, then 200 calories would not be too much of a change. If you weigh very acurately, you should be able to assess the change in a week. 1200 calories is relatively high for the diet. Guest guest
Dear Bill She was getting 1200 calories, is 5 years old and was at 35 lbs and looked somewhat chubby at that weight. She is now just under 40 lbs. I have cut 100 calories immediately. Dietitician thinks to go down 150. I suppose I could have done it all at once, but I do not want to up any seizure activity if she seems overly sensitive to the change. I don't intend to wait too long to get the calorie count down, though. I am anxious to get her where she needs to be. This has to be bad on her. She is just a little girl and the extra weight would not be good if she was " healthy normal " without all the problems. Thanks for the input. I needed the support in this. Have always felt calories were too high.... , mum to Bill Barber torontobarber@...> wrote: Normally 100 calories is a fairly standard change in calories if there is an indication that a change is needed. Guest guest
, I like to use the " old-fashioned " scales as the GP's office, the ones with the weights that you slide back and forth. I hold my daughter and subtract my weight. I think that is pretty accurate. I don't trust the electronic scales; just a feeling, no evidence. I am surprised that the diet is working so well(at all) with calories that high. You may get further improvements in seizure control with the calorie reduction. You are fortunate that is making ketones so easily. When you get down to fine-tuning, 25 calories can make a difference. Guest guest
Dear Bill You are right. It is a wonder that is doing as well as she is! And, I want to give this diet a chance, which, with all the mishaps so far I don't think it has had a chance. When her ketones were at the darkest on the multistix all day long she got so she would not eat, or would eat with much coaxing, because she did eat. Now, with lowered ratio and lower ketones that build throughout the day she eats better. Ketones get mighty high by bedtime. I wonder if too high? She wakes up crying in the night, which is a new development. I am keeping track of everyone's ideas on vitamins, selenium and biotin, etc... as want to stay ahead of problems instead of always picking up the pieces. Without being on drugs, she is not having the problems of weaning so I am expecting great things right around the corner. At this point in time it is hard to judge whether the diet is a success or not. .. mum to , keto diet since May 04 Bill Barber torontobarber@...> wrote: , I like to use the " old-fashioned " scales as the GP's office, the ones with the weights that you slide back and forth.
