Guest guest
, I don't use any flavourings. Shan enjoys soda water with stevia in it. She likes the stevia flavour so keeping it by itself has been relatively easy. If I used any flavourings it cannot contain any colour. And, I would use it rarely....for special times only. The flavouring I have used (been a couple months) is a natural strawberry that says only 100% pure concentrated extracts from natural fruits and herbs. Contains no added sugar, artificial colours or flavours. I would also consider using a couple drops of pure vanilla. By the way, I do not give Shan stevia every day. I use her soda water with stevia as a special treat. I'm terrible at coming up with creative sweet treats that are dairy free so I use her pop/soda as her special treat. When we go to someone's house for a meal I will bring a bottle of soda water sweetened with stevia. Psychologically this is working. When we get our special dessert she knows she has her special treat. This also works for school when the kids are having something special. If I knew ahead of time I sent a bottle of " pop " with her so that she felt like she was having something special too. All other times she drinks filtered water. I have lately begun to allow her to drink green tea. She doesn't get it often. So far I haven't noticed it causing her any problems. I'm hoping that it is something that she can drink large quantities of and not affect her ketones or seizures. As long as you are giving a drink with colour and fruit flavouring in it you will not be able to figure out if it is causing the problem or the stevia. The drink in itself could cause problems over time. Also, I don't know if large amounts of stevia every day could eventually cause problems. I do know that artifical sweetners every day could eventually lead to problems. Rhonda Dear Rhonda I have printed 's reply and yours. I need to sit down and study these and take a look at what I am giving and what is available in adult vitamins. has never had great hair, but maybe she has had a deficiency from birth. She is on no meds, but has been. For about five months. Everything tried made the seizuring worse. And the longer she was on them, the worse they got. She went from walking to crawling, to not eating... and although she was almost three years of age I bottle fed her just to get liquids into her. I believed she would die as there was never any relief. And when she absolutely refused to eat and began refusing to drink I began weaning her from the meds. Amazingly, as the drugs decreased, so did the seizures. When the drugs stopped, so did the seizures and she was seizure free for five months. Then they returned, but not like when she was on the drugs. And the neuro agreed, was not a candidate for drug therapy... We lived with seizures - usually one bad week a month and not much between times. Now for the keto diet. Honestly, I don't know if it is working or not. When she went acid on the high ratio, and I had not realized it, and she had those two days of horrid seizuring I was sure it was killing her. And it was. Since then she has had only one seizure. I am learning to go back and try to figure out " why. " I had begun to use stevia exclusively all at once, and perhaps it was a sensitivity to the change??? Anyway, you and have sure given me info to consider. Another question for you: I know you have worked to stay away from artificial anythings in Shan's diet. What do you get for flavorings, or do you? I have two just regular grocery store types that I use with stevia for a fruit flavored water she likes, but they are artifical with a bit of color. thx for sharing. ... mumma to dear , age 5, keto diet since May 04 ... med free 'cause they didn't ever work!
