Hi everyone,

We had to take Eilish into emergency about 12pm Wednesday night as she was

vomitting mucus and she coughed non-stop for over 5 hours. They have kept her

in and put a PICC line in on Thursday. That was a headache. It bled alot at

the sight when she was back from theatre so I had to sit there for 10minutes at

apply pressure to the vein in her neck . There was blood all down her front and

her gown, made me feel ill. Well anyway they said they would need to redress it

the following morning. I chickened out and got to take the morning off

work as stay there for it as I couldnt do it. Its still a headache as she

having trouble with the backflow as apparently its a 'juicy vein' with out alot

of blood following in it. So they had a clamp on the picc line when it wasnt in

use (looks like green plastic scissors). I have her home with me for a couple

of hours tonight before we head back aroung 9pm. So that were well be this next

2 weeks. I'll be there for the whole next week as cannot take time of as

he's just back from holidays.

said there were a few messages for me ( Kirsty - ) could you resend

them as they have all vanished from my computer.

Hi ,

So sorry to hear Eilish is in the hospital. Wish there was another way

where you don't have to go through all this. Shantell is fighting an

infection now too. The Tobi doesn't seem to be working quite as well as

before. Her lung functions have dropped to the lowest ever (60). I know

that's not bad for her age, but for her she always keeps in the 80-90

range. Hope Eilish is better soon, and be sure to take care of yourself.

It's important that you keep well, too.

Hi ,

They test by blowing and the finger. The gadget on the finger tests the

oxygen levels in the body, which also gives a good indication how much is

reaching the fingertips. Yes, her lung functions are down because she's

fighting an infection. But it's really dusty here now, and the air quality

is poor. That always triggers her asthma. She started the Tobi a couple

of days ago, and now has no cough at all. She's usually good when on Tobi,

but for some reason it wasn't as effective last time. I believe she wasn't

getting as much Tobi inhaled due to the nebulizer, so we switched. Yes, we

always do home IV's when necessary. However, we've been lucky (knock on

wood)so far as she's only had to be on IV's three times in her life. It

comes close to once a year since she turned 16 and got pseudomonas. She

infuses them with the elastomeric device last time and it really wasn't

that hard to do home IV's. I'm glad they found out what was wrong with

Eilish's IV! I can't believe it had a hole in it! YIKES! Where is the IV

placed, on her neck? Poor little one. I hope she gets out soon, two weeks

is a long time. Shantell has never stayed in the hospital more than 3

days. Take care of yourself and that darling little girl!

Do they test the lung function by blowing or by the gadget on the finger?

Hope Shantell comes good again. Is hers lung function down because she's

sick? Does she do home IV's?

Hi, troops! I assume that by " the finger thing, " you are talking about

oxygen satura

tion on room air, and that there are two other things being talked about, a

" pipe " de

vice for the sinuses, and conventional pulmonary function tests (PFTs) which

involve

blowing in and out, and are hard for young children to do. I am getting

confused,

which is not unusual for me. Love to all of you, in and out of " the club. "
