Ho everyone. My daughter Caitlin is 4 years old and we have been on

the diet scince June 28, 2004. Her ketones are generally really good

except in the morning. I have been having trouble getting them to be

high then. Any suggestions?

Bedtime snack should keep the body from producing it's own sugar. It does

this when it's running out of calories from the night.

Great to hear she's doing well.

Caitlin eats her last meal at 8:00 and then goes to bed. Right now

she gets 4 meals 8-12-4-8. Any suggestions on what to make for her

last meal that would help with the morning? Thanks

I have lost Ann's reply and your follow up post, but I think you said she

was already eating right before bedtime? Is it a snack she has, or a full

meal? We switched from a 150 cal snack to a 300 cal meal ( was due for

a cal increase anyway, so we just made the increase at night time) which

seemed to be what he needed to increase waking ketones, but it depends on

how her weight is going and whether she has gone the other way, like is she

on perhaps too many cals during the day or before bedtime, and is she

storing glycogen as result, that is being used overnight, or is she on too

few cals during the day and /or just befor bed and breaking down muscle

tissue etc to produce glucose that way instead.

Testing glucose from midnight onwards will confirm that it is glucose

rising responsible for lowering her waking ketones, but unfortunately it

won't tell you why, like from which gluceogensis process. That would have to

be guaged by looking at recent weight changes. Then you have to decide

whether to change the total calorie amount, or just the spacing throughout

the day.
