Guest guest
Welcome , I look forward to hearing more from you too. I'm Gena BTW, 38, married 20 yrs with 2 girls, 19 and 13, in Alaska. As for motivation, I believe that comes from within. You have to want this for yourself, not anyone else. It takes asking yourself some questions about what you really want. We give you lots of info and encouragement though. Gena > Hi, > I have been working out for a long time (a year or so) I have a hard > time getting motivated. Guest guest
Yay!! A perfect fit!! I never thought I'd hear those words again! It's great to read that phrase, even if you're not really talking about clothes...hehehe. Welcome! I'm the group crackpot (or " loon " , if you prefer). I think you'll like it here (If I don't scare you off, haha) and we don't like to talk about *diets* at all, more like lifestyle changes, but you've probably noticed, there's no strict subject rules (which I sure love!). I look forward to seeing more posts from you. Guest guest
Welcome! Since I found this group, I felt I got all the support I needed, and haven't stayed for a WW meeting since. (Oh, I still pay to get weighed, but that's due to my own weirdness needs.) Good for you deciding to take charge of your weight, and also on going back to school, as well as working with special needs. Hmmm...that sure makes me feel like a loser...can I mention I'm trying to fix my cell phone myself? Sure, I've only been able so far to remove one of the weensy screws, but I'm not giving up, as I usually excel at having a few loose screws. ;-) (everybody groan together) Catalina > >> this group looked like the perfect fit << > > Looks like there are quite a few of us newbie's. Guest guest
Welcome, Neece and I hope you do get motivation from us. I'm sure of one thing and that is that you'll get support. We are all in the same situation as I'm sure you have read. It's a daily struggle but it really helps to have such wonderful people as are on this loop to give encouragement. Jump in any time and I hope you stay awhile. BTW, I live in the interior of Alaska, North Pole but I'm originally from San , Texas and I have a sister named that also sometimes goes by Neece. Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Addy, we can always use a fresh face here. The people here are very encouraging and motivating without being judgemental which is what I was looking for. We are all in this together and here to support one another. I am 54, married for almost 36 years and living in North Pole, Alaska which btw is a steaming -21 degrees today! LOL! Aren't you suppose to lose more weight in cold climates than warm? If that's the case, I should be down to about 100 lbs! Hehehe. Congratulations on starting a new life both academically and weight wise. Just look at what the final outcome will be. How exciting! Hope to hear more from you. Pat > >> this group looked like the perfect fit << > > Looks like there are quite a few of us newbie's. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Neece! Somthing I just have started realize is when I thought my husband was pulling away from me over the last year with my weight gain. It was really me hiding from him. I was so convinced (and am still struggling with this now) that he would not love me as much with the weight. So I pulled away physically from him. Anywho this is a great group. Not awhole lot of quick fix dieters here. Most I think just try to eat right and get exercise. It's a lifetime plan! Guest guest
Neece Welcome to a great group. You know one thing for me is knowing i'm not in this alone. And as for the questions/comments directed towards me: Catalina wrote: " Good for you deciding to take charge of your weight, and also on going back to school, as well as working with special needs. Hmmm...that sure makes me feel like a loser... " Oh goodness no! Don't! It took me 5 years of therapy, medication, and the guts to leave a dead-end relationship to get to this point in my life, lol. Pat wrote: " Alaska which btw is a steaming -21 degrees today! LOL! Aren't you suppose to lose more weight in cold climates than warm? " Wouldn't that be nice?!? Unfortunately, I think we are more like the whales storing fat to make it through our 10 month long winters :-) Nan wrote: " I am assuming that is the twin cities you refer to. what does it mean Mon/175 at the end of your letter? am curious " Yep, just west of Minneapolis is where I am. Guest guest
I sure wish someone would go around to all the dead-end relationships, and put up a little warning sign at the beginning, like they do with dead-end streets. My heart doesn't handle a 3-point- turn quite so well as my my car does, so I feel the streets are much less dangerous (or disastrous) an error. =+) Catalina " I am assuming that is the twin cities you refer to. > what does it mean Mon/175 at the end of your letter? am curious " > > Yep, just west of Minneapolis is where I am. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I'm new to this gluten-free thing. I was diagnosed with the intolerance on Friday and have had A LOT of trouble adjusting. My stress level has been so bad that it's been killing my appetite and still making me feel sick, and mostly I'm just really lost as to what to eat and how to vary my diet. I'm already sick of chicken. I need to do some more research and become more familiar with some recipes, but any help and ideas would be great. Simple things I could start out with, variance in meals, etc. What do some of you eat for breakfast? I don't like eggs or cottage cheese, and I don't like eating meat that early in the day. I need to get more protein into my breakfast. Also, what about flavored yogurt? Is it allowed in the gluten-free diet? I've read and been told different things (and plain yogurt just tastes awful, even with fresh fruit and juice in a smoothie). Does it depend on the level of intolerance? I've usually just used vanilla to make smoothies. Thanks,

Guest guest
> Is oatmeal a good idea so soon after being diagnosed? Also, is > McCann's absolutely okay? > ========= My opinion, FWIW, is that you should completely restrict oats until you have been GF for at least a year and have recovered your good health. Then, and only then, should you challenge oats using some safe oats. That way you know what good health feels like and are more sensitive to reactions. I tried oat matzah this Pesach and was horribly ill. We know that this matzah is tested for gluten and passed the test and yet the children and I suffered for a week after the first seder. Guest guest
I would have to agree...I gave it up at the get go and recently introduced McCann's recently. Did not have an issue with it...however, I made sure a good week passed before I ate it again as I have DH and sometimes it will take up to 2 days to have a reaction. Guest guest
As to McCann's oatmeal. I don't recommend it to any celiac. I let them decide to try it on their own. It works for me. I don't eat any besides McCann's. I would try the US and Canadian oatmeals that are advertised as gluten-free. I believe them. Also, some celiacs still react to oatmeal, even Mc Cann's, so it's really a personal decision. Guest guest
Thank you so much everyone for the advice and support. I am starting to feel a little better. The biggest problem I am having right now is stabilizing my blood sugar. I was having low blood sugar problems long before I got the diagnosis, and this is making it more difficult. I'm somewhat stuck in a vicious circle because with my blood sugar being low I am afraid to leave the house in fear that I will have a low blood sugar attack away from GF food and pass out or something. So in that case I'm stuck at home with the same non-appetizing food (that Im also starting to run out of), which makes me lose my appetite. My stress level has also been so high (my heart rate has been pretty high these last few days since the diagnosis and because of the low blood sugar issues) that it's killing my appetite as well. Ugh! > > As to McCann's oatmeal. I don't recommend it to any > celiac. I let them decide to try it on their own. It > works for me. I don't eat any besides McCann's.
