Guest guest
My daughter, Becca, is 3.5 and been on the ketogenic diet for over a year. In that time we have had to change formulas two times. First because the RCF/Mircolipids/Polycose mixture contained soy and we didn't know she was allergic to soy until she got so sick, had to hosptalized and receive a blood transfusion, due to blood loss from a ulcer in her intestines because of the allergy. We then changed to a portein powder ProViMin/microlipid/polycose mix. That she did fine on and was seizure free unless she got sick. When Ketocal came back on the market the nutrianists thought it would be a better for her nutrianaly (sp?). So we changed formula and ratios at the same time. We were at 3:1 and now are at 3.5:1. Since the change she has had an increase in tonic-clonic seizures. The doctors have (over the phone ) increased meds which have worked temporarily. She had gotten almost all the way off of these same meds. I have been checking her blood sugar and it is lower when she is having seizures. She has been doing so good this is really killing me. Anyway, if there is anyone whos child takes the ketocal and can help with some calculations let me know. I feel like the ratio is too high for Becca. Our regular nutrianists is on maternity leave and the girl taking her place has not called me back after 4 messages in a week. I had calculations for RCF/Mirco/Poly thanks to the spread sheet from Hopkins but Ketocal is not on it. Thanks to anyone who has suggestions. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, my daughter Kristan who is 20 months old is on Ketocal. She is on a 4:1 ratio. Her dietitian works everything out, I don't know how to do the calculations, the dietitian says it is their job to do it, so they don't teach us how to do the calculations. Anyways, Kristan is on 735 Kcal, she's not that active. Her Ketocal recipe is 14 g Ketocal, 1.6 g Resource Protein Powder, and 7 g MCT oil. I don't know if this helps you, but that's how it is done for Kristan on the 4:1 ratio with 735 Kcal a day, she is fed four times a day. We don't have seizure control, she will seize anywhere from 20- 25 a day right now. Good luck. Guest guest
Debbie & all, I met a rep from the company that makes ketocal at a metabolic banquet. My daughter Hannah (6 1/2 months old) will be starting on Wednesday. Hannah has been on a modified keto diet since birth due to an inability to metabolize carbs safely. Well, anyways, the woman from SHS (The company that supplies ketocal) is Geraci, RD, LD. Her email is ageraci@... she is very helpful and quick to return emails. I think she works out of Rockville, MD, but I am not sure. I do know she is a great woman and very informative on ketocal. Her company also evidently makes great meal plans for the computer. I will learn more about this on Wednesday when I meet with Hannah's keto team. Best of luck, Re: Ketocal Help Hi Debbie, my daughter Kristan who is 20 months old is on Ketocal. She is on a 4:1 ratio.
