that is very interesting. I can't understand why our doctor wants her to be

on cephalexon for 2 years it doesn't make sense to me. I think I am going to

show our doctor the article that Torsten sent me and see what his input is on

Hi Kirsty,

Yes they can do throat cultures on babies. My twins get one each time they

go to the pulmonologist. They just stick the swab down the back of their

throats.

It's usually enough to get a culture. Even though Mick and Alli are orally

averse,

they seem to tolerate the swab well enough. They gag a bit, but get over it

quickly.

Throat Culture

I am guessing that the " throat culture " is taken from when a child

coughs up mucus? - Is there any way they do this on a baby as a baby

cannot cough up mucus? Do they do throat cultures in babies?

Whoa! That sounds horrible! They never did that to my twins to get a simple

throat

swab!! Holy Cow! They just took a longish (maybe 6 inches) cotton swab and

swabbed

the back of the throat. They certainly didn't go down as far as the lungs!

That sounds

like a bronchoscopy! They gagged a bit, and got over it faster than they get

over the

RSV shots they get. And they both have severe oral aversion, so if it were

really

traumatic, I'd know. Actually gets more distressed if we get a tiny

bit of

food on her tongue, than when she gets a throat culture.

Whoever has been taking those throat swabs needs to learn a new technique.

Yes...they take a long stick - like a gian straw and put in down babys

throat

into lungs..baby is screaming and parents sweating while holding down the

baby. Its terrible!!!!
