Guest guest
Louisa Dessirée has a great imagination. I think it is partly because it might not be a great challenge, but also because we work hard to help her develop it. We use floortime principles here. For instance if she was lying on the floor, we would pretend she was sleeping, we’s ask her if she needed a blanket, turn the lights off, etc. If she got up we said good morning!. If she jumped we asked her do you want to jump to the sky?. If she wants something, first we offer her and imaginary thing and said let’s pretend. At first she would say NO, so then we told her Oh, you want the real thing!. Now she knows perfectly the difference between real and pretend. One day we were playing with her jay, jay planes we have five of them, but we don’t have the truck that she likes. She told me she wanted the truck and I make a pretend car with my hand and told her, here it is this is the track. She immediately accepted the idea and went along with it. Now we do whatever we want with our hands and she uses her hands to pretend too. Yesterday we were at my sister’s house and my niece gave her a Barney book after a while she put the book in a chair saying Barney sit here, then she made a movement with her hands pretending to sit Baby Bop and BJ and then she made a birthday party for Barney. I was shocked. Imagination.... Is a wonderful thing and it has been an area in which Liesel has always sadly lacked in. Well that was until the other day when she built a plane out of Lego and actually flew it. Yesterday, she was tearing paper and I stood over her frowning because no book is safe in our house. She had got away with a unholy mess, there were bits of paper everywhere and I was just about to chastise her, but she picked up a piece and handed it to me and said, " Look this is a frog " , I looked and it was a frog, and then she gave me the star, the truck and many other things. She had been ripping pieces of paper into SHAPES!?!? WOW! Louisa Mum to Liesel 4.7 years
